Colin Kaepernick's salary demands to play quarterback in the XFL were "exorbitant" ... so says new league commissioner Oliver Luck.

"We spoke with his representative," Luck said of Kap. "And the salary requirements that were broached in that conversation were exorbitant and certainly out of our range."

Luck claims the conversations with Kap's camp all went down about a year ago ... but he says talks with the QB after initial interest on the XFL's side never got far at all.

"We have some pretty significant salary restrictions, you know," Luck said in an interview with NPR over the weekend. "We're a start-up league, so we want to make sure that we can be fiscally responsible and fiscally prudent."

"And the, you know, salary requirements that some folks, you know, shared with us were in our case exorbitant, so we, you know, couldn't go down that path."

Of course, Kaepernick made over $40 MILLION in his 6 NFL seasons. Reportedly, the average salary for XFL players is roughly $55,000.

Kaepernick has said repeatedly he still wants to play football ... and even worked out for several NFL teams back in November. But, the 32-year-old still remains a free agent.

Because he had no intention of playing.

Why do we constantly need to give this guy attention?

No, blame the NPR "journalist" who asked him about it randomly.

Because it’s fun to remind everyone that he sucks as an athlete and a person.

When he is a giant attention whore who hasn't done much of anything relevant in quite some time, he wins and it looks more like weird crying than making fun of him.

he determined long ago becoming a martyr was much more valuable than a future as a journeyman QB

Exactly. All he does is pull little publicity stunts. The media and his supporters eat it up while people like the ones who post here get all rabble rabble angry.

In all honesty though, would him refusing the XFL not crush any and all legal issues with the NFL blackballing him? I know that's all basically behind him now. But he can't say anymore he doesn't have any options. Given I guess there was the canadian leage also.

Frick that guy, won't play for $55,000 a game? Boo freaking hoo.

It's a salary, not per game. Granted though top QBs are supposedly closer to $500,000 in the XFL.

This exactly. In fact, I would imagine that Nike made sure he would never have to play football again for financial reasons. So he gets to stay relevant and in the news with ESPN, play the victim/martyr role, and get paid without ever having to risk his health.

What he is doing is actually genius. He is making money with the biggest troll job in history.

I suspect that is the reason why he isn’t in the NFL. He wants to be paid way more than teams are willing to pay him.

I think when he’s much older he’ll look back and regret wasting his prime years that he could have been playing NFL football on this nonsense.
