Finally getting to watch Cleveland 95 A Football Life. Jesus, just think at the dynasty they would have been.

this was a really cool doc though. An inside look I to the system that all of these guys built and how basically all of them ended up as either head coaches or GMs

Sure, a dynasty built around Vinny Testaverde, Leroy Hoard, Derrick Alexander, and Eric Metcalf. That's pretty much Montana, Craig, Rice, and Taylor.

"We had a horseshite preparation the last time we played these guys. We'll have to play our arse off to win this game."

also laughed at the dorky glasses first time I saw this.

I've watched this a few times. Its one of the better ones in my opinion.

I thought it sucked mostly because it focused on the coaching staff and pretty much glossed over everything that went into the team moving which is a more interesting story IMO.

they had Andre Rison and Keenan McCardell as WR's, not to bad. I mean Rison had played pretty well for the Falcons before he got to CLE.

tough break.

and how could you forget Pio Sagapolutele? One of the best football names ever.

They were tearing up the league until the move was announced.

yeah, good point. But I think it would be hard to squeeze all that into a one hour segment, no?

Rison was still in ATL when they were good in 1994 and his career pretty much flamed out once he got to Cleveland. Not much of a building block with him.

McCardell was there for 4 years and was just OK. Him breaking out there like he did in Jacksonville isn't a given.

True but it was about 75% coaching staff and 25% leaving Cleveland. That should've been flipped to me. The staff is certainly a story but how much blowing Belichick do we need.

won't disagree with any of that but to me, the talent was there at least at WR. We'll never know because of how things unfolded. That season was doomed when Modell made that call, they had no chance after that.

McCardell had his best season there that year and then went on to a pretty decent career after he left...

Naw, they were shaping up nicely as far as talent went. That whole revelation about moving to B-more killed most of their spirits.

And imagine if the move never happened, I wouldn't have doubted them not only playing in or possibly winning a Superbowl by like 98 or 99, but they probably would have become somewhat of a dynasty throughout the early 2000's. They were in the process of building a strong foundation and going about it the right way.

ETA: It's not hard to imagine them being what the Patriots are now.

Is it an oversimplification to say the Browns would've just become what the Ravens became?

No, they could have become what the Ravens and the Patriots were combined.

No not at all. In fact I think their success may even have been a year or two faster than Baltimores. But of course that's assuming BB stays put and keeps at least 60% or more of that coaching staff together. If that was the case I think the front office (and people like Ozzie Newsome) would have been competent enough to see gradual improvements in personell to that already solid foundation each year throughout the late 90's. I could easily see them being what B-more was and very possibly what New England is.
