Down 49-0 to No. 1 Clemson at the half on Saturday, The Citadel football coach Brent Thompson was approached with a proposition. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was willing to either shorten the quarters in the second half or implement a running clock to speed the thoroughly lopsided game along.
“We came here to play 60 minutes of football, and that’s what we were going to do,” Thompson said. “It didn’t matter whether I was gonna get beat by 100 or I was gonna get beat by 50, we were gonna stand in there and we were gonna play a full 60 minutes of football.

It's not uncommon and it's been reported the officials started the conversation.

Thompson, however, declined Swinney’s offer.

Im not gonna link it because it's premium but the officials asked Dabo did he want a running clock and he deferred to Citadels coach. If that means he declined dabos suggestion then I guess I'm wrong. It's still not uncommon and nothing to start a topic about when the same one was started yesterday.

Sunday's for going to church, not posting tigerdroppings...
And you completely miss the point. ASKING for a running clock isn't uncommon. Telling the other coach to get bent when he asks, is.
And I'm not surprised the All Cupcake Conference officials mentioned it to Dabo. They have to protected their 1 and only fatted calf for later in the year.

The officials probably mentioned it because a running clock means they can collect their checks faster and GTFO. Can't balme them on that
I love that the Citadel declined. Military Institution ensuring their guys don't take the easy way out

Lonnie’s butthurt about this is hilarious. You’re up 49 as the coach of the #1 ranked team in the nation playing a team who’s offense is basically predicated on the entire team diving at the defense’s knees. It’s not a surprise he wanted a running clock in the second half, all coaches would do the same.
Good for the Citadel coach for saying nah, especially with only a 4 game season, but that’s not a slight by Dabo.

I wonder if Dabo went into LSU's locker room and congratulated them on the victory like he did with Syracuse a few years ago. Don't give a shite if he went to Alabama can't stand that hokie insincere clown.

Butthurt? I think it's awesome. Now pay us our money. You got your rent a win. Now shut up and sit down.

So you're saying Dabo was the one who was scared?

F clempson but I dont blame dabo if he did offer. Clemson paid for their services. Ita kinda like getting a hooker and not needing the full hour. The guy still pays her, she just leaves early. No biggie

also.. hats off to "the dude factory" for playing hard for 60 minutes

Clemson was on pace for posting 100 unanswered points. The Citadel shouldn’t have even come out of the locker room after the half. Dabo legit had to call the dogs off in the 2nd half because the a-hole coaching the citadel wouldn’t just take his check and go home

In high school it’s a 35 point lead in the second half. For college it should be a 56 point lead in the second half

I have never in my life seen the phrase second half spelled like that

I have zero issues with this on either side of the ball. Even if the offer was solely from Dabo who cares. Pay for play games are known for injuries to the smaller school especially in the latter portion of the game. If he wanted to be an a-hole he could have hung 100 on them and treated them like knobs (check that fourth class cadets). I also respect the Citadel taking their arse kicking like men.
