KEY POINTS

Chinese state television CCTV said it was suspending the current broadcast arrangements for the NBA’s pre-season games in China.

CCTV also said it will “immediately investigate all co-operation and exchanges involving the NBA.”

It comes after NBA Commissioner Adam Silver defended Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey’s tweet in support of the Hong Kong anti-government protests.

Here's the passage that stood out to me
quote:

“We are strongly dissatisfied and we oppose Silver’s claim to support Morey’s right of free expression. We believe that any speech that challenges national sovereignty and social stability is not within the scope of freedom of speech

and yet, we're cool dealing with China while being petty about playing all star games in North Carolina

If the Left agrees with this stance, just blow it all up.

Yeah Silver was just on TV from Japan and dude looked shook. Says he is going to meet with Chinese officials and hopes that they ind "mutual respect" for the different political systems, lol.

It's fricked up but really no different than the calculations our govt makes dealing with Saudi Arabia or Bahrain or whatever other oppressive govts.

They would love such government...so long as they are at the levers of power.

See most college campuses today.

Irony of China commenting on America’s definition of freedom of speech.

Lol Silver tried to half arse support Morey and apologize to China and hope everything would just blow over, and all he did was just piss off both America and China even more.

The lies and purposely obtuse reporting make our media a better fit for China.

Many of the stories talk about Chinese fans and Chinese celebrities being upset then any decent reporting could ascertain that this is the response these folks HAVE to talk lest they face repercussion all the way to imprisonment.

They want him to force the rockets to push Morey. That would be an even worse move and lead to an absolute shite storm stateside.
Yeah Morey doesn't have "freedom of speech" protection from the NBA, but the US fans backlash if they went there would be too crazy.
But then again we're fat and lazy, so maybe we forget afte a week.

What they don't understand is that is the only thing Morey's done. Sure the Chinese want him out, but that's unreasonable to do so over one tweet
