-Pitchers and catchers report today. Cubs have made some major additions this offseason, and most likely a big subraction from the rotation (Arrieta).

-Key offseason aquisitions:
*RHP Brandon Morrow (2y/$21M)
*RHP Yu Darvish (6y/$126M)
*RHP Tyler Chatwood (3y/$38M)
*LHP Brian Duensing (re-signed 2y/$7M)
*RHP Steve Cishek (2y/$13M)

Offseason losses
*Jake Arrieta (FA, unsigned)
*Wade Davis (FA, Rockies)
*Jon Jay (FA, Royals)
*John Lackey (FA, Old AF)
*Koji Uehara (FA, Same)
*Alex Avila (FA, DBacks)

-Cubs had plenty of turnover on the coaching staff as well. Chili Davis (hitting), Jim Hickey (pitching), Will Venable (1B), and Brian Butterfield (3B) are all new to the staff.

My body is ready for baseball season. Go Cubs Go.

Any chance of Jay returning at a discounted rate? I think he's a decent utility guy to have available.

Given the Badger basketball and Blackhawks hockey season thus far, I too am ready for Cubs baseball.

I wish they could keep Jay. Maybe they get him cheaper on a one year deal and he tries FA again next offseason.

With Almora, Happ, Zobrist, Schwarber, and Heyward, there would literally be no at bats for him. It wouldn't make sense for him to come back.

Good point, although I think/hope we will see decreased playing time for Zo this year. Unless he has found the fountain of youf

Cubs’ Theo Epstein: ‘Appropriate To Tip Your Cap To Jake Arrieta’

quote:

I’ll have a lot of great things to say about Jake once he signs with another team,” Epstein said. “But I’m happy to say it again today too: None of us have rings without Jake Arrieta. He was as instrumental as anybody in the turnaround of this franchise

Gotta love all the cardtards coming in this thread and downvoting, here’s to another run at the NL Central crown .

Let’s win back to back div crowns and put the cards out of their misery again, I’ll be happy if that’s all we can accomplish this year.

Obviously I want a W.S title but that takes tons of luck along with talent. Hope the ball bounces our way! Go Cubs Go

I'm glad the offseason was focused on the pitching staff.

The lineup was inconsistent last year, but there isn't a lack of talent.

Most of the pitchers were complete trash. Looking at you, Lackey and Rondon.

We spent on what we had too. From joe and theos optimism about the shape the fielders are in I’m fairly confident a lot of guys are going to have a bounce back season. If they do I like our chances.
