Rundown:

Former Chicago Blackhawks player on 2010 team sexually harassed by assistant coach. Actions by the coach included watching pornography and masturbating in front of the player without consent and threatened harm to the player if he did not engage in sexual activity with the coach. Player went to his skills coach to report the conduct. Evidently coaching staff including Paul Vincent knew of the conduct and told upper management about it. No investigation or action was taken. The players said the whole thing was an open secret in the locker room.

Instead of an internal investigation,
quote:

The player alleged that after he shared news of the assaults with a team sports psychologist, he was told the incident was his fault.

The assistant coach left the team shortly after the season ended.

Then,
quote:

After Aldrich left the Blackhawks in 2010, he worked for Miami University in Ohio as director of hockey operations. He left after allegations of unwanted sexual touching, according to police records obtained by TSN. Miami has commissioned an internal investigation into Aldrich’s time at the school.

Then,
quote:

A second lawsuit filed against the Blackhawks by a former high school hockey player in Michigan alleges that after learning of the allegations against Aldrich, the NHL team allowed him to remain on staff through the summer of 2010 and then gave him a positive job reference, which allowed him to coach with a high school team in Houghton, Mich., where Aldrich sexually assaulted the then-17-year-old player.

Aldrich was sentenced to nine months in prison and probation for 60 months. Court records show he was tested for HIV and completed probation Feb. 13, 2019.

Also,
quote:

TSN has also spoken with a parent whose son played on the Marquette Electricians, the travel team made up of 14- and 15-year-olds where Aldrich coached after graduation.

One parent on the team recalls Aldrich coached for three seasons.

“I definitely had concerns right away that this guy was having players over to his apartment and getting too close to them,” said the parent, who requested anonymity because he now works with an NCAA hockey program and was ordered not to speak to the media about Aldrich. “A hockey coach buying a kid a $300 golf driver is grooming. That’s what it is.

“I remember one time in the summer after his first season in Marquette, the team had a swim and barbecue party at a cabin on a lake and when the boys started wrestling, Brad jumped into it, but he wasn’t really wrestling. It looked so wrong. And yes, I did say something. But the people who ran the team told me to mind my business, and that I was crazy for saying that, and my kid wound up being bullied because of it. Aldrich stayed at least another season after that.”

Update to the story with link to the independent report by Reid Schar from the law firm of Jenner & Block LINK

From the release of the report Chicago GM and President Stan Bowman resigned, Executive Al MacIsaac resigned, and the NHL fined the team $2 million. Gary Bettman is investigating the roles of Kevin Cheveldayoff (now GM in Winnipeg) and Joel Quennville (now head coach for the Florida Panthers), as both publicly claim they only knew of the allegations when the John Doe's lawsuit civil lawsuit was filed. The independent report found that both were in on an executive level meeting discussing the allegations involving Aldrich back in 2010.

Seems like an NHL hockey player would be able to beat the shite out of an assistant coach for doing that

I don’t recall Jody Plauche’s dad’s name, but a clone of him would have sorted this out years ago.

Be careful. Saying some names on here is like saying Beetlejuice or Biggie Smalls three times.

There was a case a number of years ago of an NHL player saying he had been molested/abused by his junior league coach.

Hockey players don’t even have enough clout to get the sexual predator practice film guy fired? That sounds like something you’d hear about a minor league baseball team not a large market NHL team. If multiple people you’re paying hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to tell you they can’t get dressed without being violated, you fix the problem. How does that happen?

How does this not end with an arse-kicking of the coach?

What charges were filed?

The former Chicago player is charging the team with two counts of negligence (delayed discovery, fraudulent concealment) and one count of strict liability (violation if the Illinois Human Rights Act). Basically the former player alleges he didn't know about the conviction of the coach until 2019 when the coach was released from prison for sexual assault of a minor. That knowledge jogged his memory, so to speak, of his own encounter.

Once that lawsuit was filed, the former high school player who was sexually assaulted is suing Chicago alleging they knew of the incident in 2010, didn't do any follow-up investigation, and gave the coach a letter of recommendation for the head coaching job at the high school.

2010 was also the year Chicago won the Stanley Cup, their first since 1961.

Are you thinking of Theo Fleury and Sheldon Kennedy? Both if them were sexually abused by their former coach Graham James.

I believe He's thinking of guy who played for Blues, ended up being arrested for trying to have some one killed, and the person was his former agent, who molested him and many more players including his own brother.
