The NFL is immediately instituting changes to the Rooney Rule, requiring clubs interview at least 2 external minority candidates for head coach openings and 1 minority candidate for any coordinator job, I’m told. That's on top of two resolutions up for vote @JimTrotter_NFL noted.

What the NFL is saying with this rule is that minorities are too stupid to get a job interview on their own. It is actually quiet insulting. This rule actually hurts any legit candidates. Do you think any business owner much less a Billionaire owner will let someone tell him who he must interview and hire. Hell no, a lot of them will do the token interviews and not even give the guys a chance because of this. When otherwise they maybe very good candidates.

Pete has a few young kids that have gotten to stay in one place for years and is paid like a full fledged coordinator. I'm assuming he is happy with his current status.

Which is the exact opposite of what the Rooney Rule is intended to do. Equal outcome typically cannot occur naturally in any situation without outside enforcement.

I have no idea why you think any of this is justification of anything. Can i say the same about what black coach didn't get hired over 10 years of success?

The NFL should be looking towards how they can help minorities become better coaches and executives and therefore more likely to get hired, not force teams to interview them.

I wasn't really arguing with you to justify him not getting interviews. I was pointing out why he might still be with the Saints. He did get interviews in the past, and that resulted in him getting a raise and title update. Maybe he is turning down interviews, maybe he just isn't getting them. I don't know.

When is the Jason Sehorn rule going to be implemented, all teams must interview a white cornerback prior to signing or drafting one.

Tony Dungy fears “unintended consequences” of proposed Rooney Rule expansion
quote:

Dungy supports the portion of the proposal that would allow minority coaches to leave one team to accept a promotion with another team, explaining that this will address concerns regarding the supply of qualified minority coaches. However, he draws the line at giving teams a reward for hiring a minority coach or G.M.

“I just have never been in favor of rewarding people for doing the right thing,” Dungy said. “And so I think there’s going to be some unintended consequences. To me it’s almost like the pass interference rule. Yeah, we need to do something. I don’t know if this is exactly it. We need to keep working until we find out what that best thing is to do.”

Dungy isn’t speaking only for himself. He said that he has spoken to several African-American coaches in the NFL in order to understand their concerns regarding the proposal.

“There’s three things that they’re worried about,” Dungy said. “Number one, how does this put me in my relationship with the other coaches that I work with, and other white coaches? Are they thinking I’m getting an advantage now? Number two, when that General Manager or owner hires me, is he hiring me because he thinks I’m the best person, or is he hiring me to move his draft choice up a little bit? And then the third thing this is nobody feels like they want anything special . . . . Don’t hire me and then say I’m going to give you more draft choices later on because you need help. And I know that’s not the reason why the proposal is being put in, I know that’s not what they’re driving at, but that’s still the end result. And so there’s still some things the league needs to think about, about this proposal.”

Can you get paid for an interview? If I was a former player or coach, I'd put out the word. Do 5-6 "interviews" each off-season for a fun trip and some gifts. How haven't some guys figured that out?

Exactly this. Reminds me of collegiate affirmative action. The problem doesnt start when a minority attends college, the problem starts in the home where they grow up in a culture that doesn't value education. Start teaching them and helping them so you dont have to force dumb vain shallow initiatives like this. The tools they lack are not taught at younger ages and its harder to make up the gap.

As I said in the last thread, maybe black ex-players just arent interested in pursuing anything further after their playing careers...especially when you consider the level of success a black player has during his career.

Why would any minority coach want to work for an organization that doesn't really want them anyway?

This just makes folks have interviews for interview sake

NFL needs to GTFO the SJW business, they are there TO MAKE MONEY and WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS not to hire people because of the color of their skin as some part of affirmative action bullshite, they are walking a fine line between bastardizing the sport for something that doesn’t represent their business model and striving to be more progressive in a way, something like this probably reaches that balance much to the chagrin of libtards who want them to go farther. It’s all capitalism and numbers: the percentage of minority coaches in the NFL reflect or exceed their proportionate percentage of the population so should be good enough on that point and it also boils down to background, fit, and merit, you can’t just be black you have to be a good coach who will mesh well with the franchise. Eric Beinemy’s probably the only coach I know of who can command a solid HC offer now because of his offensive success but the well isn’t too big for a whole host of others.

yes it should apply to players and then exactly half of everyone on the team at every position must be white or they are discriminating based on race
