If you can get away with just a back-pack (personal item), or back-pack & carry-on; it can be significantly cheaper.
Was looking for a flight the other day and Spirt was $75 each way. Next cheapest was SW at $240 each way. It'll be a 2 day trip, so I only need a backpack.

Spirit is not great by any means, but since I’ve flown it a couple of times to Dominican Republic I decided to sign up for the Spirit card and got the perks. If you’re going to be in Shitetown, you might as well be the Mayor

I flew Spirit to Vegas last week and had no problem.
Spirit isn’t always the cheapest. United beat Spirit when I flew to LA in Sep 2021.
