Ole Miss
Oklahoma
Texas Tech
Tulane (I would guess)
Texas A&M
that leaves two spots
3 loss Bama
2 Loss ND
2 Loss Miami
If you put ND and Bama in, than the Miami win over ND seems pointless.
If you put Miami and Bama in, Miami somehow jumps ND without playing a game.
If you put ND and Miami in, than you are punishing a team for playing an extra game.
There is no good scenario for the comittee if Bama loses.

Logically the margin of defeat should be irrelevant, since it's still an extra game, but these people only think in terms of optics. This gives them the convenient escape valve of letting Notre Dame and Miami in.
