This map doesnt neccessarily reflect who's good and bad, it's all about timing of wins. In 2017 5-7 Pitt had like the 3rd or 4th most land by the end because they beat undefeated Miami in their last game of the year so they took over an entire season of earned land in one go. So as far as Stanford goes, Washington had accrued a decent amount of land and Stanford just beat them so they took it all over.
Conversely, even if you go undefeated it's possible for you to not have very much land if you keep playing teams that lost their previous game and thus never play against anyone that has any land on the map. Which is probably why Clemson doesn't have as much land as you'd expect

And to add to this, by week 4 or 5 most conferences play out the rest of the season in conference, and since the ACC did so shitty OOC not many ACC teams have any land. As you see, Syracuse has a little, Wake has a little, and Pitt has UCF's. But other than that, there isnt much land to go around in the ACC so don't expect Clemson to accrue much more the rest of the season
