Probably. LSU was pretty damn good for a 4-7 team.

Wow.

This was 20 years ago.

And Tulane has had 3 winning seasons since then.

Before that, they had something like 2 winning seasons in like 17 years.

That 1998 team is definitely something to be cherished.

It's interesting what happened after the 1998 season. Sandy Barbour (the current Penn State AD) hired Chris Scelfo instead of RichRod, and things went downhill from there. But I remember reading the following thread a few years ago that says Barbour wanted RichRod but was overruled, although I think she is still blamed for letting RichRod get away. I'm mentioning this in case anyone here has anything to add to the gossip.

Sandy fired Buddy Teevens and hired Tommy Bowden, when Bowden left she gave the job to RR, Cowen overruled her and hired Scelfo and pushed Sandy out a short time later and hired Rick Dickson.
I'm going from memory here...
Tulane interviewed Gary Crowton, Chris Scelfo and RR. After RR met with Sandy, his next move was to meet with Dr. Cowen at his house that Saturday night.
RR spoke to SC for about two hours shook hands and went back to his office thinking he had the job. Sandy tells Rod that Dr. Cowen was very impressed everything looks great, the press conference will be on Monday morning at 11am, "wear your green jacket."

She hired RR. Sam Scelfo then spent the night convincing SC to hire CS b/c he would stay. She got overruled by the big fat dumbass himself. Don't ever buy anything from Gambino's.

quote:

And tps is correct- she was hiring RR and Cowen overruled her for Scelfo- remember RR came to work that day in his green blazer- only to be humiliated by SC.

That is exactly what happened. It is pretty well known that Tulane royally fricked that up. I will add that Scott Cowen is an enormous fat frick and I’m glad he’s gone.

Rich Rod stayed on to coach the bowl game after Bowden left even though the retarded Tulane administration had already hired a new coach to replace Bowden.

Not sure how Rich Rod would have done at that time with Triangle of Secrets, but Tulane has mostly sucked post 1998.

Yeah that was fricked up. Went out of their way to embarrass RichRod and he still came back and coached the team to the bowl victory.
