I hate that Smyly hasn't been able to get healthy. I was so excited to get to watch him pitch again. He was so good for the Hogs. Hopefully his recovery stays on schedule and we can add him to the rotation before the end of the season. We need his arm bad.

That 8th reminded me of when Jaime Garcia was rolling thru season with a 1.89 era, and Colorado put up 11 runs in like an inning on him.

Cards are 4-1 on a west coast road trip against wild card contenders, already a success.

If we can steal today's game it would have surpassed even my highest expectations of 4-2

4 game sweep of the shitty Reds. Just what the doctor ordered. Glad there are some cupcakes in the midst of this 23 games in 23 days stretch.

Hmm... only takes 4 series wins to win the World Series, we've doubled that...

As in a lot of fan who don't live in or around Chicago, but are only fans because of WGN.

Are fans with no local team somehow not allowed to cheer for anybody?

Yeah, so the frick what...a lot of folks back in the day in the south were fans of the Cards because KMOX had a huge broadcast radio signal and folks around much of the south could get their games... My Dad was a Card fan growing up because of that.

No one should be giving real fans of a team shite for becoming real fans via TV or radio. If you've been a fan your whole life, you've supported the team through the ups and downs, you're a real fan.

If you hopped on the bandwagon of the Cubs as they made their first World Series and won it AND you're a loud obnoxious Cubs fan, then you're a douchebag just like all the Red Sox fans that became fans around 2004 and suddenly started stirring shite with other fanbases.

As a Cardinals fan who was born and raised in St. Louis, I respect the Cubs fans that have actually been with the team for a long time, regardless of where they reside or where they were born.

I hate their guts. But I respect them.

People were calling us Bandwagon fans on this board in 2010

It's always been a thing for people to think that their fandom is better or more important than someone else's

We've had Cubs game threads for most games here for as long as I can remember. Some new faces here and there but it's been the same 5-8 guys for the most part before and after 2016

Another thing I like is that I’ve never been treated as less of a fan when I go see a game at Wrigley and tell someone how it was a Ryne Sandberg figurine given to me as a gift when I was six years old that turned me into a Cubs fan.

It was still always weird to me seeing a fanbase the size of the Cubs pulling for a perennial loser in those lean years.

I mentioned WGN...because that is the basis for most of my friends/ colleagues connection to the cubs. Growing up in florida in the 80s....it was wgn or tbs (at least we could make it to atl for a braves game every so often) but i absolutely have no problem with being a fan without ever living in the vicinity of "your" team. In one context though... I have a friend that is an Orioles fan. Just liked the Orioles- he chose them as his team. the Cubs fans are( were in hs) fans because ....they either watched braves or cubs (or flipper flintstones)and and went counter to be braves fans and thus defacto cubs fans. When the Braves were doing really well my cub friends had forgotten baseball....until 2015. Now it's..."lifelong cubs fan here" "making a WS run- see what we did to the reds?" i never got the disappearing of Braves fan ( granted a long run of success helped)...even the Orioles fan and pirate's fan friend never disapperd like the cubs fans. I think it's more tangible for the Brave fans due to proximity or the Orioles Pirates fans because they chose their teams (partly due to family) over the cub fans i know whose allegiance is to the cubs because...wgn showed baseball while the other tv options were ..Hogans Heros. If the option to see Baywatch or something similar would have been available at that time on another channel...i dont know how many of my friends would have actually become present day "life long cubs fan"
