Cancellation of All Athletic Events Will Just Highlight How Unimportant Sports Really Are
I know I will get some hate for this but the idea that events are being canceled bc of the risk to the athletes is just laughable IMO. It implies that somehow athletes lives are more important than every joes working for a living.

At the end of the day with no sports on TV, people will just find something else to do with their free time. But if actual real workers who provide a good or service stop working then truly all hell will break loose.

You’re right over all. But I do like to have some sports on in the evening

I agree on the athletes themselves but there are lots of subsidiary businesses that will be hurt. Close by restaurants, bars, vendors, etc. plus concessions workers, ticket checkers, food workers. These are the people to feel bad for.

I could be wrong, but to me it implies playing football or basketball with someone sick is a little different than your average office job.

The non contact cancelations are stupid.

You're right of course, but trivial distractions (movies, tv, sports, video games, hobbies, etc.) are a huge part of what makes life enjoyable.

Cuban supposedly is taking care of the workers at AA Arena during the shutdown

The Coronavirus makes me realize how unimportant it is to drive 60 instead of 6. We’d save thousands of lives per year if only we drove slower. No b-ball games will save 0-1 life

Is there some kind of study that says being in a cube farm with a sick person is some how less dangerous then playing basketball with a sick person? Seems like being in close quarters with someone sick would be the most risky to catch a disease like this.

That is great. And I'm not trying to sound like it's not a huge thing for him to do. But damn there are so many industries that depend on these events. Just sucks for those businesses.

How does it imply that? A lot of us average** Joe's have been told to WFH. Kids have been sent home from school. College classes have shifted to online.

Which is why several companies started shifting to WFH over a week ago.

Well duh.

Sports/events = entertainment. People will survive without one of the many options for entertainment made available to them

Our nation can’t survive if people stop going to work and running the country

Can house builders just work from home? Can roofers work from home? Lots of meaningful jobs require people to be at a job site.

If a city garbage collector contacted the virus, would the city shut down garbage collection? I would hope not. That is basically what the NBA just did.

What are you talking about?

It’s already having the opposite effect - we go insane without sports.

Most of us here live in So La. March in SoLa is by far the best time of year. Go outside. Hit some golf balls at the range. Play ball with your kids. Just sit outside and enjoy the weather. This is actually a great time of year for sports to take a pause.

Guessing you’re not a college baseball fan?

For some of us it’s a close second to CFB

I like LSU baseball but March/April are just great months for outside stuff in SoLa. I do think it is beyond stupid that NCAA canceled everything instead of just waiting a few weeks to see how things played out before making a final decision.

Agreed.

I’m one of those guys who tunes in to every midweek game and enjoys Lyn Rollins’ commentary. This is a huge blow.
