What kind of puritanical nonsense is this? Aren’t liberals about letting people make their own decisions? Why would it bother anyone that others are betting on sports?

Sounds like they did. They put it to a vote and voted no.

voting yes doesn't make it mandatory to bet on sports

When you are that close to Vegas, does it really matter

Louisiana is praying Texas never approves gambling

I assume people vote against stuff that they don’t care about before voting for it

Since when?

I stil can't believe it's 2022 and the government still is telling us where we can and can't smoke weed and gamble. I legit can't fathom that.

It was similar to the strange smear campaign that they used to raise the smoking age to 21 in California from 18.

Prop 27 lost in a landslide...online sports betting...the initiative even said on the ballot...to provide funds to prevent homelessness.

Well Cali, likes their homeless...don't tread on the government.

No...83%

But the smear campaign was stupid...kids would be able to gamble online and get addicted and yada, yada, yada...and then become homeless because they emptied their parents credit cards...so you're not helping the homeless by this initiative.

Because once gambling is legalized, poor people will start making imprudent use of their money

The government has believed for quite some time that they have to protect people from themselves. It would take a revolution to quell government overreach at this point.

Wasn't just liberals, Republicans voted against it too.

Sounds like what happened is that there were two propositions, one for online betting and another for Indian casinos that spent shitloads of cash on TV ads fighting each other and voters had the same reaction people had to this:

The bigger problem was there were 2 different, contradictory measures with hundreds of millions being spent on ads against one another, creating all sorts of confusion. The tribes and FanDuel/DraftKings had different ballot measures, which was stupid and ended up leading to both of them losing.

Libertarians

Liberals lean more toward Warden Norton's viewpoint from Shawshank Redemption:
