Non athletes are fleeing that school in droves because they've completely ignored academics in favor of athletics.

You ever see the pastor? Grade A douche. Prolly has a few fraud convictions in his past as well.

That’s something I always questioned, I kinda figured it was because they played so many weaker team he just wanted to keep his team focused on doing what they would need to do once they hit the better teams in the playoffs. But I never liked it and definately not the optics of it.

you brought up “dirty recruiting” in reference to Starks. I feel confident in saying that Coach Starks didn’t do anything dirty. I feel less confident if you were to cast a wider net at LCA regarding that, of course, I’d feel that way at every private school, magnet school, charter school and school of choice that is competitive in any sport.

I’ve known Byron and his family for a long time and I don’t know many finer people. That’s really all I’m saying.

They’re the fastest growing privatee in the area, they’ll be 2A next year. But the academics do seem to have suffered since my kids started there. The headmaster of the school stepped down 2 years ago and standards in general seemed to have slipped since then and it does look like much of that is related to the push towards athletics. And they’ve lost a few good teachers but have picked up a few good ones as well.

I saw some talk of the loss of accreditation. Where are you guys getting that from? I have a junior there (non athlete) and would like know if there is any substance to it or if it’s just gossip.

Thanks

He’s a mixed bag, douche being one that occasionally appears .
He does seem to be a little blinded at times by his desire to win in all things athletic.

For all his flaws, I don’t see that being one of them. But it’s not like I’m friends with him or anything. I know him through the school and my son (now at LSU) playing basketball and football at LCA. I am friends with a few people who grew up with him, those people are really nice folks.

Keep in mind, he’s not only a pastor but the son of a pastor as well. The church he pastors was founded by his dad, so that brings some baggage with it typically.

I’m fairly well plugged in to Lafayette high school basketball. Byron wasn’t the first one to do it in the area, but it’s very much recruiting.

I'm not going to say how I know, but I know for a fact that they lost accreditation for at least a few months. I thought they got it back, but I'm not sure

Oh, I know that recruiting happens, that is not against the rules as I understand it, it’s the paying for tuition that is technically against the rules unless you have a clear policy that offers tuition assistance to all applicants based on criteria unrelated to athletics. You may be able to correct me on this.

interscholastic athletics.

2.1.3 Recruiting for athletic purposes is not only a violation by the student who has been recruited, but is also a violation by the school and/or the school personnel who recruited the student. It is a violation to recruit for athletic purposes

If proof is established that a school has secured and athlete under any of the conditions set forth in this section, the principal shall be required to appear before the Executive Committee and the Executive Director to answer the allegations against his/her school and the student(s) is automatically ineligible to participate in athletics for at least one calendar year and may be ruled ineligible in the sports(s) not to
exceed four calendar years.

I know it for a fact, as do many people. Like Boose said, that pastor is right in the thick of it

Thanks, I was not aware of those, guess I could have easily looked it up.

How often does that actually get enforced, though. I haven’t heard of any school getting sanctioned for this, though I guess I easily could have missed it.

I feel confident it does happen at a lot of schools but not sure how it could be proven unless someone is just careless or stupid.

Yeah every private school pretty much does. LCA is just begging to be busted though. They're making a ton of enemies.

Not sure how many of the current players (this year or last) weren’t kids who were a LCA most of there school life or move here from other places not close by. (I mean that I honestly don’t. The kids I mostly know have been there since well before high school).

They do seem to piss a lot of people off, though.

I honestly see a drop off in the boys basketball next year with Greg leaving along with Karen Thibodeaux and Coach Starks.

They wouldn't piss people off if they would just shut up about recruiting. They always trying to convince people they don't do it.

You make enemies when your girls basketball coach puts on Facebook or Twitter that "she was so proud of her athletes that chose LCA" or something to that statement. But what pissed other coaches off is this hash tag that was reposted by almost every coach around the area with laughing emoji's #builtnotbought

They had 5A type talent on a 1A team because of “persuasion” tactics. They were beating small schools by 60 points. It will be interesting to see how good of a coach Starks really is.

Going to be interesting to see how well he can coach when he doesn't have a hand picked team that isn't going up against much weaker competition.

As for as LCA, they have earned their status as a "hated" program. One thing to openly recruit kids but they are an absolutely classless program.

Whenever you openly mock inferior opponents and have your very stacked team throwing alley oops and pressing while up 50+ (and sharing the videos online) is just bad on any level.

I've heard the pastor is actually a really nice guy away in person. Either he is totally clueless about the reputation the school has or he doesn't care.
