Per Bruce Feldman on Twitter

quote:

SOURCE: Five-star WR recruit Bru McCoy name is now in the transfer portal. It went in at 2:08 PM PT today. McCoy started classes at #USC a few weeks ago.

Wait, was he an early enrollee and he's already looking to get out?

I really hope he doesn't have to sit a year because of this. But it's the NCAA, they will probably make him sit 2 years.

Swann should have fired Helton months ago. Now somebody needs to fire them both. It's only going to get worse.

Let's just get free agency in college football

I guess the kliff thing pissed him off. That and UT was probably tampering with him

We're almost there in Basketball with the way they were approving immediate eligibility this past offseason.

I would hazard a guess about both football and basketball that if these kids would start looking for the best fit instead of the best payday, there would be fewer transfers each year.

The transfer portal is so dumb. Everybody is just leaving now with next to no repercussions.

I'm legit curious about how this goes down. I assume he will request for the waiver to play immediately and it's an interesting case since he has not even been to one organized football event at USC

The transfer portal is an effect of the rate of transfer, not the cause.

I didn’t phrase that very well, but that’s pretty much what I meant.

Going to be interesting to watch for sure. What’s tough now is there are so many people getting waivers to play the next year and it’s such a judgement call.

How do you tell Bru McCoy he can’t play next year but you say Justin Fields can (if he gets the waiver).

I honestly feel like the NCAA will try to crack down on this because it would set a monumentally horrific precedent but at the same time, I hope he gets it just to continue destroying the facade of amateurism

Without knowing more about McCoy's case, I'd say he has a more legitimate reason for the waiver since he's an early enrollee and hasn't practiced with the team or anything.

Fields' just has the ace in hole. He's going to get his waiver.

Completely agree on both counts. If Fields gets a waiver, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the floodgates open with people finding any excuse to transfer when the real reason is that they didn’t get as much playing time as they thought they would.

And SC will lose the initial counter.

The ace isn’t the card he’s playing.
