Brandon Browner was just sentenced to 8 years in state prison after pleading no contest to attempted murder ... TMZ Sports has learned.

The former Seattle Seahawks star -- an original member of the famed Legion of Boom defense -- was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in La Verne, CA on July 8 and allegedly chased her, dragged her and then smothered her in a carpet.

Her two children were present when the alleged abuse occurred.

Browner was also accused of stealing the woman's Rolex watch. He fled the residence but was later arrested and charged with attempted murder and faced life in prison.

On Tuesday, the 34-year-old appeared in court where he pled no contest to 1 count of attempted murder and 2 counts of willful child endangerment. In exchange, the remaining charges (robbery, burglary and false imprisonment) were dropped.

He was so dumb and so bad with the Saints. God we had some dark years and wasted a good bit of Brees' prime.

Browner is a former Pro Bowl cornerback. He won one Super Bowl with the Seahawks and one with the Patriots.

But not with the Saints...that attempted-murdering motherfricker

I'm glad they didn't mention his time as a Saint

8 years is a fricking joke, some prosecutor just wanting a high conviction rate agreed to that bs. The system is overloaded and they are overworked but these kinds of deals should be criminal as well. Prayers sent to the children, awful story all the way around.

He was the most penalized player in the NFL when he was with the Saints. Some things never change.

Ex-Saints All-Prison team is stacked with Browner and Sharper patrolling the backfield.

I read that article, and I had a hard time finding attempted murder in the scene they described.

I agree. If he wanted to kill her, he could have.
When i think of attempted murder, i think you tried to kill someone, you just failed at it.

Is a pretty pertinent part of it. Sounds like they had him dead to rights on the above charges. youre probably looking at 10 yrs convicted on those alone

how long should he go to prison? 8 years is a long time to spend in prison.

For trying to murder a woman in front of her kids? I'd be fine with life.

He's imprinted images on those kids that is going to frick them up.

Exactly. They'll all have that memory for a lot longer than 8 years, and the kids would've served a lifetime sentence without a mother if Browner wasn't a complete failure at everything.
