Make it happen, if for no other reason just to piss off Matt Millen, Jay Paterno and the fat Paterno son.

In all honesty, Bowden has handled his forced retirement about as well as any coach I've seen. During the last few years he was coaching, I had serious doubts about whether he knew more than 3 players on his own team. Now, in interviews, he's not just coherent, he's engaging and seems a lot younger.
I'm sure he wouldn't turn down being #1 in all-time wins, but the guy seems a lot healthier and happier now.

It wouldn't bother me one bit if they removed it. I never understood the bronzing of college coaches anyway.

Have been wondering what Bobby was thinking. Thanks for posting!
It's hard to take advice from the guy who stands to benefit the most from JoPa going down.
BUT
It's clear now that the all-time wins leader needs to be Bowden then Coach Robinson.

I don't think they should take it down, they made the statue to celebrate his coaching accomplishments and all of that is still true. It kinda sucks that Paterno is getting more hate than Sandusky, Sandusky is just getting written off as a sicko pervert (which he his) and basically being ignored. Meanwhile everybody is pissing all over Paternos name. He was still the best thing that ever happened to Penn State football

They absolutely should. I totally agree with him. How can the school move on when everytime they go to the stadium they see his statue.

I agree with Bowden.

Hardly. He's sitting in prison for the rest of his life

Harboring a child rapist usually isn't a good way to endear yourself to the public

Which in the end was the biggest problem. The State college cult of personality allowed this whole situation to arise

I don't know how letting someone get away with what Sandusky did can be considered the best thing to ever happen to Penn State.
He was a hell of a coach and was loyal to Penn State, almost to a fault. However, what happened while he was there....it kind of taints everything.

YEAH plus Bobby helped out Marshall after their tragedy!

Not almost, 100% to a fault. That fault was not paying attention to a serial child rapist right under your nose for 30 years, and that inattention leading to the perpetuation of his activities through his access to facilities and the link between Penn St. and the Second Mile Foundation.
re: Bobby Bowden: "Take Down the Paterno Statue."Posted by CajunFootball on 7/13/12 at 1:37 pm to tiggerthetooth
Was it his loyalty to PSU that he didn not continue to go after Sandusky, or was it something else? We'll never know if why he never made it public, or helped ensure that it never happened again.

Take it down and erect three new ones in it's place. Like the three monkeys of hear no evil, see no evil, speak not a word about the evil to help those kids.

Well its pretty clear he was never very busy dealing with the monster of an issue the Sandusky situation was. So where in the world was Joe Paterno? Idk...probably at Penn St. football functions, probably ripping the former Student Affairs director for trying to discipline "his" players for being dumbasses, probably standing on the sidelines every Saturday with a towel around his neck not doing shite. All Paterno ever did for the last 60 years was Penn St. related.
re: Bobby Bowden: "Take Down the Paterno Statue."Posted by CajunFootball on 7/13/12 at 1:49 pm to tiggerthetooth
I'm not trying to defend the guy, but I'm not going to go out and say it was his loyalty to PSU as to why he didn't pursue it any further. He could have been butt-buddies with Sandusky and had a little some type of kick backs, he could really just not given a single frick about it, or who knows.
