RBC

Southeastern leads 14-13 all-time (since 1972) and has won 6 of the last 7 games.

Like last season, Nicholls is set to win the SLC, but this season, another loss to the Lions could truly derail their postseason hopes.

Nicholls made the FCS playoffs last season even after losing to Southeastern 21-17 in Hammond. It was Nicholls' first trip to the FCS playoffs since 2005.

Chase Fourcade could be eyeing a FBS landing spot for his Senior season next year, so this could be his last chance to beat the Lions. He's currently (0-2) v/s the Lions.

FBS Success: Nichols upset the Kansas Jayhawks to open the season, while Southeastern let the ULM Warhawks come back to beat them.

I wish I could make it to this game in Thibodaux Thursday night. It should be a doozy!

The River Bell Classic is the annual football game between Nicholls State University and Southeastern Louisiana University with the winner being presented with the River Bell Trophy.[1][2][3] The two schools are 94 miles apart and no two football-playing schools in the Southland Conference are as close as Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana.[4] The game played between the rivals[5] began in 1972 and was played annually until 1985 when Southeastern Louisiana dropped its football program.[6][7] It resumed 20 years later in 2005 when football was reinstated by the university.[5]

I think the Bayou Classic is a bit bigger.

all I can really tell you is that there's a different feel in this game that you can sense in the stadium. I've been to 2 of these, and it's a heated rivalry. Harder hitting and like last season, it was SLU's superbowl. They nearly prevented Nicholls from going to the playoffs.

So, I don't know of any great traditions of this game other than winning and carrying off the bell, but I can tell you that both sides play smash-mouth football.

Jambalaya Shoppe in Hammond sells their stuff at the games, and for $5-6, you get an nice overfilled cup.
