Ohio State wants to start playing as early as January. Would playing on frozen turf be safer than the virus? Ask Wisconsin and Michigan how cold it will be. March is the obvious answer but Ohio State wants January. Domed stadiums would work for some, but others will be left out in the cold. Good luck to them. I could probably enjoy watching a few games in Jan. and Feb. after our season is over. On TV.

Football in the North in January. Wow. Many concussions are caused by heads slamming into turf.

Sounds like the Big-10 honchos are feeling the rage of the fans. The fan sites are on fire.

None of the people offering up spring football as a possibility actually believe it can be done.

It’s a pipe dream to sell to people

And the weather is at the bottom of the list of issues that would come from starting in January

Just saying that so they don’t have a bunch of transfers. Nothing changes in a few months

this would be ignorant...you are going to ask players to play essentially two seasons in one year....this alone is probably more dangerous than the damn virus

Well, the good news is that Covid will be cured by December and the flu (which peaks in Jan-March) can't cause myocarditis. Plus, I'm sure fans in Chicago, Madison, Columbus, Iowa City, etc have always wanted to watch a football season played almost entirely in sub-freezing temperatures with fields covered in ice and snow.

The weather is a huge problem if CTE concerns you. Playing surfaces and sideline areas get hard as concrete - and icy.

Jan.is not the answer, neither is March. The draft is in April & the elite players will be involved with their private trainers getting ready for the combine. Pretty much can guarantee J.Fields won't be the starting QB for the Buckeyes.

I’m not saying it’s not a problem, I’m saying it’s not at the top of the list of problems that this idea would create

When you have kids and they ask repeatedly over and over about something, you get so tired of hearing "when" or "why" or "where" that you just make up something on the fly just to stop getting asked. That is what they're doing to us. They think we're a bunch of kids and don't get it. So they're just throwing spring out there as though anybody with half a brain couldn't figure it out that it wouldn't work. That is what pisses me off the most about it. It's insulting to everybody's intelligence.

Or... ORRRR Ohio state could just play when the rest of the country plays? (And by rest of the country I mean Clemson, and the first and second best sec teams play.) why should we change our whole season up just to appease Ryan Day? Gtfo. He’s a part of the main admin banging the table talking about how irresponsible it would be for the big 10 to have football.

Covid will still be here in January.

You’re misunderstanding. Ryan day wants to play football this fall. He’s been vocal about that.

He was also asked about spring FB because the Big10 voted to “postpone” to the spring.

OSU Athletic department wants to play but their president doesn’t

Conflicting reports on that. The new president has said that she does in some reports.

quote:

The source said that if there is a vote to cancel the season, Johnson would vote “No” because she believes there is a way to keep players safe and healthy.

Johnson officially starts as OSU president on Aug. 24.

Gene Smith may be out before September - hope so.
