Ascension Catholic coach Drey Trosclair 'forced to resign' over bizarre field-pass dispute

Drey Trosclair, who took the Ascension Catholic High Bulldogs to back-to-back state championship games and restored the Donaldsonville parochial school to its former grid-iron glory, is out as head football coach, he says, after a dispute over game field passes for major program supporters.
The ex-head coach said Thursday night the school administration forced him to resign Wednesday morning over allegations of insubordination in connection with field passes for the state championship game Dec. 6 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Trosclair said the disagreement came after the administration had forced him earlier in the football season to sign a contract promising not to run up the score on other teams and to try to keep games within 14 points.

School administrators brought up the contract not to run up score, Trosclair said, between the team’s third and fourth games in mid-September.
He said Ascension Catholic had beaten Kipp Renaissance out of New Orleans, 56-26, on Sept. 13. Administrators called him into the office the next Friday afternoon, on Sept. 21, hours before Ascension Catholic’s next game against Thomas Jefferson of Gretna.
He had been told, he said, if he didn’t sign the contract, he would not be able to coach the game against Thomas Jefferson. Though he disagreed with the idea, which he says deprives second- and third-string players from a chance to score late in games, he signed the agreement to be with his players.

There has to be more to this story than just this.
Anyone from AC have the scoop?

That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
Keep it within 14 pts? Wtf?

If I had been in his shoes I would have signed the contract. Then immediately informed my players of the situation and challenge them to go out and get me fired.

But the story is confusing...is it over passes or running up the score

It seems that a Journalism doesn't require English courses at the Advocate. Almost all of the articles I read are just like that. Their Editors are terrible.

I have always felt coaches should keep it classy and not run up the score on weaker opponents, but 14 points? In this era of spread football, 14 points can be scored in the blink of an eye.

AC just messed up a real good thing by loosing him.
Certain he’ll have another job by next week.

This board feels like 2009 today and it is awesome.

It seems the firing is over the sideline passes. The coach wanting to present the ridiculousness of not running up the score contract to furthermore prove his firing was stupid.

I see nothing wrong with rewarding those who donate their time and money with side line passes.
Good luck replacing him. Who would want to coach at a school where dominating other teams will get you fired.

In any era 14 point difference isn't running the score up. Yeah I can see dialing it back if you have a big lead. You don't want to run a flea flicker or double reverse if you have a opponent beat down. But you still want to let your back ups get in and have fun. You still run your regular offense, you just milk the clock and stay in bounds etc.

Even if it was because of the passes it was stupid, didn't they get the passes through other means because he couldn't provide them?
