NEW YORK — A federal grand jury in New York City has returned indictments against four assistant college basketball coaches charged in a bribery scheme, including longtime Arizona Wildcats assistant Emanuel “Book” Richardson.

The grand jury returned the indictments Tuesday against eight of 10 men arrested in September.

Richardson is facing charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, solicitation of bribes by an agent of a federally funded organization, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, wire fraud conspiracy and travel act conspiracy. If convicted, Sean Miller’s longest-tenured assistant could serve as long as 60 years in prison and pay up to $1.5 million in fines.

Arizona's two remaining recruits also announced today that they will not be signing in the early period with Arizona and may not sign with anyone until next fall after they see what happens with the FBI investigation and whether Sean Miller will be fired or not.
FBI probe could leave Sean Miller, Arizona Wildcats waiting during early signing period

And the Wildcats’ two remaining commitments, Shareef O’Neal and Brandon Williams, may not sign until the spring signing period because of questions surrounding the investigation.

Efforts to reach O’Neal were unsuccessful. Chris Wright, Williams’ father, said his son was “99 percent” likely to wait until the spring.

If Sean Miller gets through this investigation, there’s a good chance he’ll sign.”

What a waste of fricking resources. Going after the folks who get the athletes and their families paid while turning a blind eye to the blatant prostitution of the system that is the NCAA. “Oh nooooz not paying taxes on the under the table money you use to get recruits, sky is falling!!!!!”

I expect to receive many downvotes from hypocrites.

It all started with a cooperating witness. How did the FBI manage to get involved in the shrouded world of college recruiting? An unidentified financial advisor (now revealed as Martin Blazer, per multiple reports), who was charged in 2016 by the SEC with fraud, became cooperating witness after those charges were filed. The witness informed the FBI, as means of cooperation, that he could bring light to fraud and corruption in the world of college recruiting because said witness had been party to it in the past.

The FBI didn't just wake up one morning and decide to bring down college basketball. They were working an SEC(not the conference) fraud case and a guy plea bargained a lessor sentence by providing the FBI information about other corruptions in college basketball.

What was the fbi supposed to do? Not pursue a slam dunk case?

I am very familiar with the case. Doesn’t stop the NCAA from profiting bigly from big time recruits.
