Are you tired of MLB players, agents and media complaining?

I side with players over owners and think they should take as much money as they can get but jesus christ, the endless bitching this offseason is unbearable.
1. They agreed to a CBA which raised the lux tax very little, stiffer financial penalties, loss of multiple picks and intl bonus pool money in exchange for lifestyle issues like chefs in clubhouse, extra seats on a bus, etc. There are consequences for your actions and anyone with a brain could have seen the owners won that CBA
2. Its not like players don't have healthy offers. Darvish just got $126 mil, Santana got $60 mil, Lorenzo Cain got $80 mil. Reportedly JD Martinez has a $100-125 mil offer on the table and Hosmer has a $140 mil offer. They are good players not great players and those offers reflect that and the analytics support not paying vet FA's the ridiculous sums they used to get
3. The idea that players get only 40% of the revenue is based on people thinking players are entitled to MLBAM related revenue. Even the union and I believe Boras have said that without that the players are getting ~50%. MLBAM was an investment made by 30 owners with pocket change = $2.5 mil each and the money they now make from it isn't really baseball related.
Now you have players 1 full year removed from the new cba talking about striking in 2021 despite revenues steadily going up 5% each year for the past several years and avg salaries above $4.2 mil.
Not saying they don't have issues but some of the stuff they are whining about is just ludacris

Yes. It's not like any of these guys are ever going to be poor (unless they blow all their money in the next 5-10 years which I guess is certainly possible).

Has the bitching been that bad? I haven't heard any bitching except for fans mad at Jeter for blowing up the Marlins. FWIW, the agents job is to bitch for his client to get more money. If the media didn't report it, it wouldn't annoy you so much. It's like Lavar Ball. If they quit paying attention to his nonsense nobody would even know who he is.

I wouldn't say I'm tired of it, but they do look stupid saying teams are colluding.
No, they just don't want to pay 180 mill for 7 years of a 30 something year old.
If they lowered prices a bit, they'd all be signed.
Darvish's contract isn't that bad compared to what Arrieta and Martinez want.

Some of this is on Scott Boras. Yes, an agent is there to get the most for his clients but I think this year he's doing more harm than good. He's not letting his unsigned players attend the camp created to help them land jobs!
Eric Hosmer has an offer from the Royals & Padre's, both in the 7 yr/$140mil range and he's turned them both down. Why? Bc he wants an 8th year. He's 28 now, no one wants to pay a 36yr old $20+ mill a year.
Jake Arrieta wanted $159 mill/6yr deal, Cubs said no thanks and signed Darvish for $5mill/yr cheaper.
Both of them are Boras clients. He's been raking the owners over the coals for years and I think it's finally caught up to him.

Agree...Boras is a big part of the problem
Annoys the frick out of me that MLB has taken huge strides in regaining popularity and has so much young talent and then all this bullshite is happening to put a damper on things. They’re gonna end up going on strike in a few years
I do think this free agent class is kinda meh which also plays a part. Hopefully with next years insane FA class teams will be willing to pay and everyone is happy

Yes, but there are a whole bunch of ~500k minor league guys that haven't signed because these major league guys haven't signed. So that cascading effect is real life-impacting.

JDM has publically bitched multiple times, so I know Red Sox fans have been hearing about it. At the start of FA I was excited about him, but at this point either take the deal or move the frick on.

Actually it wasn’t created to help them land jobs. It was created so they can hit the ground running if/when they get signed. I think the camp had potential to help get players signed but the camp will be closed to the media.

I'm tired of Scott Boras. Him and Drew Rosenhaus have to be unbearable.

Eric Hosmwr should thank his lucky stars anyone is offering him any money near 100M. Dudes so overrated.

if hosmer has a 7/140 deal on table, he should be on jerry falwells show thankinh god.
he's an above average player, nothing more

I have always wondered why they can’t create a path for MLB players to be given opportunity to make more money in their primes (ages 25ish to 31ish). Right now they are probably vastly underpaid early but then seek to be vastly overpaid later.
Should be the other way around. Also which they could get rid of fully guaranteed contracts but that’ll never happen.

The problem is the organizations invest a lot if time and money in developing and getting players through there young years and into their prime, so they want those players on their roster during that time for the payoff. It would be a really bad system if players got right to their prime and then hit the open market. Why would franchises care about player development? Especially pitchers, just use them up and spit them out because you'll never see their best years anyway.
There has to be a way to balance these things.

That’s true. Maybe some type of capped restricted free agency process like the NBA has?

I think the easiest path is an adjustment to the arbitration process. Rework the Super-2 rule or something which would allow younger guys to make more money during their prime, and eliminate the system of rewarding older players for past performance.

Teams have seen enough of these huge long term contracts given to aging vets that front offices end up regretting after a year or 2 because they realize they overpaid for a guy that's on the decline.
Then the last 2 World Series champs have been built mostly through the draft and their minor league system without needing to spend massive amounts of money on free agency

This bothers me. The revenue from the sale of BAM is based on it being the premier streaming platform in the industry. It had nothing to do with the guys on the field.
I'm all about players making more. They need to make more earlier in their careers since that's where the value is. I'd also like to see MILB players get paid more.
But anyone thinking the players should make more because of a windfall from the sale of BAM is ludicrous.
