Maybe we use adjectives differently.

PJ goes overboard with the hyperbole. A couple of the blocking issues were on Mettenberger, a couple on RB's.

This meme that because the passing game was not close to perfect in game 1, they didn't throw enough is truly rantastic.

no doubt there were things that need to be ironed out, Miles and several players called it sloppy. They threw 26 times, I think that's going to be fairly close to what they throw in most games. It is run oriented offense, just like Bama, if you want to call the conservative, so be it, but they don't have to chuck in 50 times to beat Alabama, they just have to connect on a couple of the ones that are open, and there will be open ones, just like there were in the 2 games last year.

For all the Miles talk saying we are gonna open up the offense seems like a lie to me.

I never believed for one second the offense would change much. A few more throws, yes but nothing more than that. Anyone thinking this offense would get away from running the ball 60% of the time was just dreaming.

That seemed over the top even for him!

This. LSU fans really don't seem to understand this. If we had Matt Barkley this would likely be the case.

As an LSU fan, I'm good with any configuration of the top 4. It basically sets up a four team playoff with Bama/LSU and USC/Oregon. We'll find out who is the best in the end.

what was the breakdown from 2005-2007? The problem with the offense the last couple of years was not that it was too conservative, it was that the QB play was bad. If Mettenberger is closer to the Russell and Flynn than Jefferson and Lee, then the passing game will be more productive. The overall run/pass % doesn't mean much, because they will run more with big leads in conference games for sure. 5-10 more passes when they run 60-70 plays a game is a pretty big jump.

Everyone knows this, although it was fairly conservative because we knew what we had in those two. Which was not much. I blame part of it on the coaching staff not being able to teach them better. I believe a few other staffs could have made them much better than they were.

I didn't expect him to be a star immediately, as much as I love LSU football we aren't exactly the best offensive coaching staff in the country (in terms of the QB). He'll grow but I knew we would be working him in. With the D and running game why take any chances by having him win games more with his arm. I see next year be slightly different but we shall see.

This is all I am asking for. They have time toimprove with games against some weak opponents to work on things.

I remember when LSU beat Oregon (much better than this overrated Michigan bunch) in similar fashion last year and they jumped OU and Alabama for #1 after Week 1..

Ohh.. Wait.. We did not.

The year Lienart won the Heisman for USC, they threw 426 passes and had 433 or so rushing attemps no including 49 att by Lienart, which I assume were mostly sacks, so if we add that to the passing att brings it to 475 or basically a 52 P 48 run split. No doubt LSU will run more than we throw, but again, the key is to be effective when passing, not necessarily throwing more passes. If they can't stop the run, no need to stop running.

It shows that the old blue bloods will always get blue blood treatment while new money needs to constantly prove themselves.

To be fair, Bama was #2 and moved up to #1 picking up 45 1st place votes in both polls.

LSU did thump a better Oregon team but you also did move up from #4 to #2 in both polls and picked up 21 1st place votes.

So yeah, Bama like USC and Notre Dame and others carry more weight with lazy voters because of old money name...but you also need to stop crying...it's not as bad a disparity as you think.

And this is great. BUT To help the running game even more. Putting some fear into the defenses with just the idea of being able to stretch the feild is a HUGE edge for LSU over anyone.

I think the media wants their 2 favorite teams tied for #1. but it'll take a few polls for their manipulation to take shape.

All they have to do is hit a couple to open it up I think they did just that. If he gets hurt, its over. There are things that need to be improved, but i don't see where another 10 pass v NTU would have made much difference.

I know the preseason coaches poll was very close 1-2-3 but has a team ever dropped from 1 to 3 after winning the previous week?
