I'm flying to NYC until Thursday. Anyone going to the Yankees playoff game? What is the best spot to grab a beer before

I would if they were in Arlington but alas Texas did not hold up their end of the bargain

I would avoid the area by the ballpark. Saw a stabbing just down the street once.
Grab a drink or two in the city then take the train up.

What type of place are you interested in?
Around the stadium or near the lines to the stadium?

I am about to head to lunch so I will go ahead and give you a few suggestions.
Sports Bar - Foley's (33rd btwn 5th and 6th) Massive amount of baseball memorabilia. It is a Cardinals bar and they play at 1 that day so should be a pretty good crowd. You can jump on the BD at 34th and 6th to head to the game.
Swankish Bar - Campbell Apartment (Grand Central) This probably won't be the type of bar you want, but if you want a pretty cool space to grab a few drinks and relax before heading to the game. Take the 4 from Grand Central to head to the game.

About 8-million folks. Give or take a couple hundred thousand.

I want to live in New York so badly.

Theres a bunch of bars outside the stadium, and they are extremely safe. I usually park at a deck and tailgate, a lot cheaper and a better beer selection.

THIS. If you are going to the game, you want to drink near the stadium. There are a lot of bars right outside the Stadium on River Ave (underneathe the elevated subway tracks)and they are perfectly safe on game day. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe where you can drink outside and it's connected to the Stadium.
Of course, you don't really want to hang out there too long after the game or on non game days.
I literally live 5 miles from the Stadium, but will only be showing up with Detroit comes back to town.

Don't avoid the area around the stadium because someone got stabbed there recently. I would recommend going as early as possible, walking into a few bars and having some drinks, and then walking around NYS if you haven't been yet.

Ive been to the old and new stadium hundreds of times, that area is much nicer now than it was 10-15 years ago. Go to a bar outside the stadium, its way more fun than grabbing a drink in the city.
