No thanks.

Either way I think Ainge probably knows keeping Kyrie will be essential to keeping AD long term.

Does that mean he's willing to get rid of Kyrie in the trade and get Davis before the end of the season?

No, it probably means this.

AD's people leaked news to put pressure on the Pels.

The Pels said they're not linked to a timetable to preserve their negotiating power.

Ainge is signaling interest so the Pels have leverage and the Lakers don't completely hose the Pels. It isn't in the Celts interest to let the Lakers get AD on the cheap and have a rival for rings.

I'd assume this is all posturing, at least the stuff hitting the media.

Only way Boston would touch AD is if it is a sign and trade. If that is true, then the really diminishes the trade market for AD.

Same thing was said with PG. A lot can change in one season, they'll take the risk.
The team that's going to get fricked is the Pels, because the return won't be as good as it'd be if he did a S&T. But it can still be good value, and more importantly the most value they can get.

I seriously doubt that. Boston isn’t a traditional NBA FA destination and they know that. I think they realize they’re going to have to roll the dice on resigning Davis in order to have a shot at him. This is the type of deal Ainge has been building assets for the last several years.

I think the only way Boston doesn’t land him is if he publicly torpedoes it by saying he won’t resign there similar to what Garnett did

They may still go after him, but his value drops significantly. That is really going to screw the Pels even further if it is true.

Probably takes Tatum out of the deal but Ainge would still offer a great package that may or may not be better than what the Lakers are offering now depending on who you’re asking.

Also S&T rules have changed. You don’t get the new salary yearly value after a signing with the intent to trade. If I’m correct you get half the new value or the old one which ever is higher.

The next 5 months are going to be long as f*** for us Pels fans...

Look at it the other way, what if acquiring AD gets Kyrie to re-sign?

I really really don't see ainge lowballing with the raptors, lal, knicks and probably another team or two in play.

This is probably his only shot at getting the guy he's been coveting for the last 5+ years. The entire celtics FO philosophy has led up to this trade. I don't think he's gonna hold back.

If Ainge feels there is zero chance AD stays in Boston past a year I really don’t think he’d be short sighted enough to deal 21 year old Tatum for one shot at a title. Especially with the warriors still around. This all goes out the window if Kyrie leaves. I don’t think he will. Every public statement he has put out has been he is staying but who knows. If Kyrie goes, Boston doesn’t trade for AD and rides their young core hoping to hit more draft picks and bid their time till Warriors (KD and Klay) go away.

Would Pels fans be ok with any Boston offer that doesn’t include Tatum?

I think the raptor threat for AD goes away if Kawhi leaves, which I feel is likely. Knicks only pull the trigger if they know they can sign another super star FA. What Kyrie and to a lesser extent KD does this offseason will be massive in dictating who goes all in for AD.

Zach Lowe has some raptors guys on his podcast shortly after Christmas which I guess he does every year. They said the Taps plan is basically develop a core of Kawhi/OG/Siakam. I know AD becoming officially available muddies things up but I just don’t see this 5 team bidding war that Pels fan believe will happen.

It’ll come down to LAL assists and Boston with NYK being wildcard imo.

Davis got fined 50K. That will really deter guys from going public in the future.

And whether or not yall get that is dependent on how scorched earth rich paul and AD want to go. If they leave it at this, then yall should still get Tatum from Boston. But what if they go full on PG from two summers ago and repeat over and over again, very publicly, that they will not sign with anyone else. That might make a tatum/knick pick return somewhat questionable

It's been said that ainge isn't deterred by only one year guarantee.

The part about "we're gonna be aggressive and give you what you want" for AD is new.

That's pretty massive if that is actually what happens in the summer.
