No one is saying that choosing financial security by taking the extension was a bad move. If he truly wanted to have the option of entering free agency early, than that was the risk he would have had to take.

. I am just personally more sympathetic to players who have no control over who drafts them, and are then told that if they want to grab further control or their career decisions, they need to make monumental and insane personal/professional risk

There should be somewhere in between outright tampering, like what lebron and AD are doing, and giving players a more realistic grasp of their career

Why is this even a story? Anthony Davis goes to the locker room and gets an X-ray, MRI, and blood transfusions every single time somebody brushes against him in a game.

Thems the breaks.

You take the guaranteed money, you have to live up to your end of the contract.

You take the QO to be a UFA sooner? Then you better hope you stay healthy and don’t get buried by the team since you aren’t staying, a la Nerlens Noel with the Mavs.

If he had lived up to his reputation as Mr Glass, the team would be stuck paying him out even if he couldn’t get back in the court with a John Wall style multi-year injury.

This butthurt over AD is pitiful. Pelicans had every opportunity to build something around that kid, and didn't. He deserves to go where he wants. Your anger should be directed towards the Pels office.

Then he shouldn't have signed an extension.

He can go wherever he wants in free agency after his contract is up.

He played this like a bitch.

No one’s pissed over AD asking to be traded. That’s fine. The anger is over the dumb way it’s being handled by him and everyone around him.

Rich Paul's next move is to leak a bunch of "chronic" shoulder injury reports to try to tank his trade value to scare off Boston and New York.

yeah. everyone realized he was going to ask out. last year was our attempt at salvation and we are just cursed in terms of injuries

the issue was demanding to be dealt to one team

THEN, actively attempting to destroy potential talks with the other prime suitor

and the whole "i wish he had more power" argument is kind of bullshite. other than the arguments already made, his issue is that he wants (1) a max deal (2) on the lakers (3) now. the argument about giving the players power just kind of ignores 1 and 3, while they're the variables that complicate this agency

i'm happy. it makes it more likely he won't make all-NBA and will lose money and we won't get punished forit

Of course he took that deal, he was given life changing guaranteed money and realistically had no other comparable options

In fairness, he could have taken the QO and went to free agency and still obtained life changing guaranteed money.

Injury is always a risk in sports. A player could get injuries in their rookie deal and not get a QO. Nothing you can do about that.

And the way the NBA is set up isn’t just about AD. Think of guys like Wall and Rose whose salaries are an albatross to the organization. And think of guys like Solo and Asìk who aren’t superstars who get to take advantage of the system as well.

AD could have waited until the summer and told the organization he wanted to be traded and N.O. Would have still loved him. Hell, the front office would have likely worked with him on a destination. Instead, he made an announcement days before the trade deadline to force the Pelicans hand, then doubled down by saying where he wanted to be traded, then made it worse by forcing their hand and coming out and saying he wanted to play.
He handled this terribly!

Is this where the MSB's Laker Phags and Pelibaw Haters having their cock stroking party?

Both parties are culpable. However, AD has decided to go the LeBitch/Durant route. He will forever be Robin.

The Pelicans FO can get better. You can make an argument that AD will never be looked at in the same way.

You have Kevin Durant still chasing being an Alpha even after winning 2 chips. AD will never be an Alpha.

Again, the Lakers fans are more butthurt about the situation than Pelicans fans. It's marvelous.
