A trade that would send outfielder Andrew Benintendi to the Kansas City Royals is not complete, but the Red Sox, Royals and Mets are working through details on a three-way deal that is expected to be finalized, sources tell ESPN

I don’t expect us to be in the playoffs by any means but Fangraphs projected the Royals at 79-83 prior to the Benintendi addition. If their young pitching can hold up, they could put up a respectable .500 season

I think Royals could be sneaky good this year. Like you said, I’m not expecting playoffs, but I’m loving the trajectory of the team

If the pitching arrives this year and is good as advertised they could be salty in that department. I’m a lot more skeptical on the offensive side even though they’ve made some nice low cost moves

I mean the AL central is weak but you will be, at best, in a bucket with other teams fighting for the last wild card spot. Not out of the question but probably unlikely

Agreed. I’m certainly not going into the season expecting it. But being in the bucket is really all I ask as a Royals fan.
ETA: also I’m an Arkansas grad Royals fan living in Boston so this trade makes me happy regardless

Yeah. I don’t see how adding Beni all of a sudden makes the Royals a contender. He’s been a big pile of meh for a while now, and he’s going from a band-box to a pitcher’s park. What am I missing here?

Didn't he go through a huge slump and then they basically tried to change his entire approach? Then that ended in a total loss of confidence.
