Nearly three-fourths of the Football Bowl Subdivision athletic directors told Stadium they believe the college football season will be delayed and 36 percent predict the season will consist of only conference games because of COVID-19.

"I am worried about playing a season and hope we are not selling our soul just to play a season,” a Power Five AD said. “I truly believe we will have games canceled.”

Also, seven percent of the ADs told Stadium they don’t expect the season to be played at all during the 2020-21 academic year, while nearly one-third think the season will be moved to the spring.

“One death [of a coach or student-athlete] and we will all regret pushing this competitive envelope so hard,” a Group of Five AD said.

How much uncertainty has crept into the minds of the athletic directors? Three months ago, only one AD told Stadium there wouldn’t be football. Now, eight ADs are predicting there won’t be a season.

In a July survey conducted by Stadium, all 130 FBS ADs were asked: What is most likely in college football this season? Of the 130 ADs, 115 participated in the anonymous survey.

Added another Power Five AD: “I think we start as scheduled, but I would be shocked if we make it to the end as scheduled.”

The proponents of moving the season to the spring — 31 percent of ADs — believe the additional time is critical to acquire more affordable and accurate testing with quicker turnaround times to get the results.

“Anyone who doesn’t see the spring as a viable option is in total denial,” a Group of Five AD said.

There are many questioning a move to the spring due to the myriad of potential challenges that come with the change, like top players potentially sitting out because of the NFL Draft, an injured player missing the spring season plus the 2021 fall season and the strain on student-athletes having to play two football seasons during the 2021 calendar year.

The idea that few deaths should delay the season is a failed ideal based on fear.. I would love an honest study that would attempt to play this out within both scenarios of football and no football and the risks to student athletes... it would seem reasonable that with the consistent care and caution of athletes under supervision vs no supervision and .....well the fact they are college students, which side would show less risk.

Of course the G5 ADs are more apt to shut it down - they don't have nearly the investment or impact as the P5.

Football itself has a risk of death/paralysis on literally every single snap. The notion of "safety" is absurd.

No football affects the economy of the cities, quality of life enjoyment for entire states, professional opportunities with life changing/generational wealth for every athlete on the team. It affects employment opportunity for every camera man, director, cable guy who help broadcast the games. It affects the entire coaching staffs/trainers/equipment guys (on scholarships) for both football and all non rev sports

Not to mention the scholarships and opportunities provided for every non-rev sport athlete who gets to attend college. This is a big deal because without football a lot of schools will be forced to shut down non-rev sports.

It goes on and on and on. For someone in a cushy arse, high paying, no threat of furlough job as an AD/University President to trot out the "if it saves just one life aka wont somebody think of the children narrative is fricking insulting

A player is more likely to get paralyzed or die training for the football season than to die of covid.

Remember, academia, and especially, athletic departments, are run by remarkably mediocre people.

The fact that Joe Alleva ran the athletic department for a semi-Ivy school, and then one of the most profitable athletic departments in America for a decade, should be very instructive on this.

Be ready for those footballers getting shot or fatalities from auto accidents to be covid deaths.

Did we shut down CFB when Durkin’s coaching decisions led to McNair’s death at Maryland or when Brian Kelly’s decision to have an outdoor practice on a windy day killed that videographer?

Everyone is scared of being sued by piece of shite lawyers who are praying that someone catches the virus at a football game.
