Allen High School unveils their new $60 Million Stadium

Even before the new stadium broke ground, the project made national headlines.
In 2009, voters approved the expensive new facility, because many said the old 14,000-seat capacity was not enough to accommodate the fans.
"It shows that the people of Allen support their kids," said Allen head football coach Tom Westerberg.
Just days before Westerberg's team begins practices, the district offered a first look at its new crown jewel.
The 18,000-seat stadium boasts NaturalGrass Matrix turf, a 75-by-45 foot HD video scoreboard, a weight room and sunken-bowl design.
"When it's all said and done, we're going to have over 8,000 season ticket holders," said athletic director Steve Williams.
Most season tickets are gone, but a few will go on sale early next week.

My buddy just sent this to me....that's ridiculous. I've seen stadiums like this in TX before but they were shared between all the area teams...this is for one school as I understand it...that's unreal.

It is becoming an arms race in high school facilities. These stadiums are starting look like small college stadiums.
I live in Mansfield and we have one of the nicest stadiums in the Metroplex, but it is small potatoes compared to the new one in Allen.

the area is exploding with population, and it is expected to have multiple high schools built in the next decade. current school has close to 4,000 students
it's being paid for by a bond supported by the taxpayers, so i really don't see any issues with it
don't even try to say that you would not love if NOLA could work together long enough for something like $25MM in improvements to Tad Gormley paid for by the taxpayers

That school is hilarious because it distinctly shows the hierarchy of high school sports in Texas. Football has this brand new, small-college stadium, basketball team has a decent-sized basketball arena that is actually below ground level and the baseball field is crappy.
I passed by the field about two weeks ago and schools like SMU could use the field and it would be an upgrade from their current field

Berry Center in Cypress seems bigger, but that stadium is shared with about 8 high schools.

I have a friend who would follow Acadiana High School to Jupiter if they played a football game there. He does not have a kid who plays for them, either, and graduated from AHS like 30-something years ago. You would have thought the Rams won the freaking Super Bowl the way this guy bombarded Facebook after their State Championships. His hatred of STM borders on pathological.

I caught the end of the game (extra innings) last night, there were so few people, that some started screaming/making animal noises and you could hear the echo on tv.

Again, Barry is right. Schools in Allen's district, and throughout the state, fill up their stands every Friday night.

That's amazing. I don't know enough about the area to really judge, and I'm a love high school sports, but I don't think I'd vote to raise my taxes to build a $60M stadium.
Maybe it's a true econonomic development issue and good for the community in that sense, but seems like an an unnecessary shrine.

Allen is like Southlake Jr. right now in terms of trying to be the most upscale city in the area.

whats up with him not being recruited that much , i saw his SR years stats and look damn good.
He probably won't see the field much if Childress can stay out of trouble and live up to the hype
