So you expect a lawyer to sign a draft of a contract that was drafted by the opposing party without consulting his client or having an opportunity to red-line the document? Man...
agreed somewhat, no lawyer would sign something before reading it. But the attorney was asking for the waiver, and using the clause as the reason why he couldnt tell the whole story and that MLB was hiding behind it. So then Lauer says here you here is what you asked for. The waiver was more a release for MLB than AROD, the attorney was just using the clause as a means to hide behind. MLB called their bluff and rightfully so. I believe the lawyer also hinted at him not wanting MLB to release everything, just a few things. which is even more suspect

quote:Exactly. It can be argued that MLB has been underhanded, MLB isn't the party involved who "has something to hide." MLB knows that though they may not have been perfect in this case, the idea of ALL the facts being exposed is way scarier for Rodriguez than for MLB.

realistically, they both have skeletons in their closets and neither likely want a waiver signed.
entertaining nonetheless.

Textbook Matt Lauer. He is almost always a VERY combative interview unless it is with someone who is open, honest, and or fits his agenda.
Like Howard Stern
Stern recently had him on his show not long ago and Lauer was clearly a bit nervous. (although they claim to be legit friends)

They are showing on the tickers of espn and fox that A Rod's attorney "declines invitation from MLB to make public all the evidence that led to A Rod's suspension." They really made that attorney look like an idiot. Matt Lauer set his arse up.

Rodriguez and his lawyers believe they have evidence that supports their contention that Chris Ahmad, the Yankees’ team doctor, misdiagnosed A-Rod’s hip injury during last October’s playoffs. They have yet to file the suit as they continue to put together their case.
quote:
Rodriguez himself said Sunday that the union is filing a grievance against the Yankees on his behalf over how the Yankees handled his hip injury. This appears to be something entirely different, though.
quote:
According to Marchand’s report, Rodriguez’s side will claim Ahmad knew of Rodriguez’s need for surgery as early as Oct. 29, but that Rodriguez wasn’t informed of his results. Rodriguez’s side will also say that Ahmad misdiagnosed the injury following the original MRI on Oct. 11. Rodriguez played in four more games following that MRI. He ended up going 3-for-25 with no RBI and 12 strikeouts in eight postseason games.
It just keeps getting uglier

agree
the attorney was trying to dominate a 24 hour news cycle by getting the word out that MLB wouldn't let them talk... MLB using Lauer to shoot down that play sucks for them but it isn't like his lawyer would give MLB a heads up every time they leaked something to a member of the media

So many guys were cheating for years. MLB has to buy info from Bosch to get evidence because they can't turn up dirt on their own and make a case...MLB is more to blame than any player. Now they scapegoat Rodriguez...what a joke! Even on the Yanks; Giambi, Clemens, Petitte, etc were all on the juice. Now MLB goes after a few. Wipe the slate clean, MLB...start testing next year in earnest and institute a two-strike and you're out policy. Waive all cheating up to this point, rather than lame arse scapegoating.

Matt Lauer is a douche bag...always has been! MLB is pathetic...sending letters around, scapegoating certain players...their case will be flimsy!

Disagree
The player's union in MLB is the most powerful in American sports. The owners may have looked the other way but the player's union made a conscious decision to block testing and penalization for PEDs

The players union is to blame somewhat, but MLB is inept and more to blame than any player. I don't even blame young Latin American players, at all levels, for juicing to get bigger, stronger and get more money to send home. The issue is deep-rooted in the minors too. MLB has allowed it's sport to become tainted much more than any player has...the Hall is tainted, the records are tainted, etc...but the "purists" don't want replays...what a joke. Had Bart G lived, it would have been a different story!
