Fox Business

"The team also brings in significant cash flow and it could mean a major loss should the college football season get canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Mayor Walt Maddox told reporters on a video conference call that not having a season could result in about $2 billion in lost revenue."

“It would be economically catastrophic for Tuscaloosa if there is no football season,” Maddox said, according to CBS42. “Even a mitigated football season with restricted attendance and number of ball games would have dire economic consequences.”

Maddox said the city was losing $600,000 per week when the campus was closed due to the pandemic."

Signed,
Every SEC city. Nashville (Vandy) is the only one who would not be affected. This is the economy livelihood of these towns.

Looks like they'll be pawning Bear Bryant's statue by the end of the season.

What will be the economic impact if the season is played in the spring?

It won’t be played in the Spring.

Fall or cancelled.

This virus is going to prove which ncaa football programs have the wealthiest boosters in my strong opinion. Can you imagine being like a Phil Knight and being able to say “it’s cool man, I got y’all covered”.

Nothing changes in the Spring.

The virus is here to stay for several years.

Either live your life of stay home but let those who want to attend games do so.

The Spring deferral is essentially the nuclear option - nobody that matters wants it - NCAA or any D1 school.

Those institutions and the NCAA are going to do everything they can to play this Fall, regardless of whatever pussies on the internet or the woke media says. That is fact.

Knoxville has quite a lot of industry not directly associated with the university. Downtown likely suffers a bit but the city will survive

Alabama is seriously fricked if CFB gets banned because of CTE in the next 10/20 years.

You can't put all your eggs in one basket.

Diversify man.

You mean the entire Power 5 is fricked. Don’t sit there and pretend football doesn’t pay the bills at every school.

It would also mean schools would likely only field football and men’s basketball (or nothing)

Without football there are no women’s sports, it’s not sustainable

surely Baton Rouge has a lot more going than just football. It's the capital.

It doesn’t. LSU stands to lose as much or more as the defending national champions.
