Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie's decision to part with Doug Pederson likely came down to a difference of opinion at who the team's quarterback will be moving forward, according to former NFL quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman. Aikman, during a recent appearance on former teammate Michael Irvin's podcast, said he spoke to the former Eagles coach the day after the Eagles fired him, which came three years after Pederson led the franchise to its first Super Bowl title. Based on his conversion with Pederson, Aikman believes that Lurie's decision to move in a different direction came down to Pederson's desire to move forward with Jalen Hurts at quarterback.
quote:

"I sensed that here Jeff Lurie, the owner, has paid a lot of money to Carson Wentz, and they're on the hook with him," Aikman said. "They can't get out of that contract right away. And yet, it's my belief that Doug Pederson felt that Jalen Hurts was probably the quarterback going forward."
What a shite show

Impossible. Peterson is a racist for sitting Hurts in that last game.

People will get mad at the owner here, but think about it this way

Someone in your company(the coach)comes and tells you as an owner you need to spend 100 million on an employee because you need to keep him

You do it. Then a year later the coach tells you that you need to no longer use that employee. I, the owner, would be pissed

He deserved to get fired for that stunt. I don’t know how you get the locker room back after that

...

Lurie is apparently retarded.

Hurts isn’t your best bet but Wentz has been godawful. Continuing to ride him because of that bad contract is a “sunk cost fallacy” unless they just want to lose the next few years ans get high picks until they can cut him. Which will go over SO well after Hurts getting pulled late in week 17.

If the QB regresses horribly and has a shitty attitude, I can’t blame the coach too much.

From all accounts, it wasn't Pederson who wanted to extend and keep Wentz, but it was the owner.

If that's also the case, why the hell would you spend a 2nd round pick on a QB as well.

As much as I think pederson is an imbecile, that's on ownership and GM with the atrocious contracts/drafting

Lurie seems like a fricking idiot

saw an interview the other day where he was excusing Roseman's draft blunders...He basically said its not Howie's fault the players they actually liked got taken ahead of them in drafts

Should have just shifted the offense and used Hurts like Taysom, let him go all out running and short yardage but also use his arm. They could have made it work instead of picking one or the other IMO

Pulling a QB that is 7/20 and had a rating of 25.4 while the game could still be won is a stunt that is fireable?

Compound all of this with the decision to draft Hurts in the second round. Was that a coach decision or owner/GM?

Ehhh your post is kind of stupid in this case. I'm sure you can find people that played the race angle; because there's always those people. But the outrage after he pulled Hurts was about tanking, not about race.

There was a lot of race angled criticism regarding that decision.
