The motor city Cobra. Hearns broke his hand in the first round.

This is the crazy first round I'll always remember from watching it live. Boom Boom vs Arturo Frias.

Those guys were slingin leather

I remember watching it live as a young teen. I never saw anything remotely close to that. I was a Hitman fan back then but it was hard not to be in awe of what both guys were doing. It was like straight out of a Rocky movie.

greatest round ever...occasionally pull it up and show the young guys that work for me

The HBO Legendary Nights episode for this fight explained why the fight went the way it did.

When I was a youngster, I was team Marvelous...but have come around as I got older on Hearns

Two of the greatest of their era in their absolute primes attempting to take each other’s heads off. What a fight.

Hard not to love those two.

And now we have UFC instead. I wish boxing would make a comeback.

Pinging off the immortal words of Duke Evers (let’s see who the real trivia buffs are around here), that wasn’t a damn show, that was a damn fight.

So epic. Thanks for posting this one. Love me some classic boxing
Those last 45 seconds especially were incredible.

Hearns/Hagler was a hell of a fight and I was watching it as it was being played out. Tommy could punch like a mule, but so could Hagler and truth is, Hagler had the better chin.
Tommy only suffered 5 losses in his long career, but 4 of them were by stoppage. Hagler was never stopped.

Ray Mancini reminded me of a living "Rock-em, Sock-em" robot. He punched with evil intent in every round.
I watched that fight that changed boxing's championship fights when he fought Korean Deuk Koo Kim for the title in Vegas in 82. Ray was ahead on all cards but Kim represented well and both fighters were getting rocked during that fight. Ray finally stopped Kim in the 14th round for the win, but Kim suffered a brain injury in that fight and died 4 days later in the hospital.
Boxing changed their format for title fights from 15 rounds to 12 rounds shortly after that.

I have 3 older brothers and 1 of us just didn't care for sports or really ever play them. Probably couldn't name a single NBA or NFL player today other than that queer bait in the news that goes out with Taylor Swift. But man even he loved drinking at the bar and watching boxing.
