The Crime Dog became a legend. Fred McGriff Atlanta Braves debut

When me and my cousins were watching that home run clear the wall, we all lost our collective minds..and then he added 2 more the very next night.

My favorite Atlanta Brave of all-time. When I was a little kid I almost worshipped this guy.

Fred was definitely a quality player and person, and a man worth idolizing.

Family is all cardinal fans and we had been in the panhandle of Florida for a month, and almost everyone living here was a Braves fan. I remember listening to this on KMOX radio and just being deflated. That series with McGriff was one I didn't live down for a while and I had to read about that stupid fire in the local newspaper every day.

That's my downvote. Very well may have cost me my first World Series win. Fred McGriff was the main reason my Giants missed the playoffs. Him and late season call up Salomon Torres of the Shreveport Captains being shelled on the final day of the season against the Dodgers. Despite adding Barry Bonds alongside Will the thrill and Matt Williams and winning 100+ games, the Giants would finish a game behind Atlanta. The playoffs would be expanded the very next year.

Probably one of the biggest crime dog fans out there. This night was even better than my 12th bday when sportscenter greeted me with highlights of mcgriff getting thrown at and hit, after Sheffield hit a grand slam, and just pulverizing that giant's pitcher Atlanta is thousands of miles closer and tbs was airing games. I was so pumped beforehand and to see him go off like that the first couple games was incredible.

Later that season we were in Atlanta for something and got to go a game. I foolishly bet my older brother $10 that he'd get at least 1 hr and 3 rbi. Watching that bet winning home run in the 8th inning was one of my happiest in person baseball memories.

And we all agree Sid Bream started that fire, right

Very underrated player. I’d put him in the HOF.

I grew up in Georgia so always had a soft spot for the Braves. I consider myself a Rays fan, but will cheer for Atlanta as well. I grew up loving Mcgriff, both Jones, Smultz, etc.
