Yet another grand slam without the GOAT, with each one seemingly topping the others in terms of absurdity. Hopefully this is the last one that he can't play.

Defending champs:

Emma Raducanu had probably the flukiest run in tennis history, but here's a bonus pic just because.

Men's odds per Bovada

Apparently Novak's status is still up in the air, but the main draws are scheduled to be revealed on Thursday the 25th. It appears that he will wait as long as possible in case any changes are made to the travel policy, which means he will likely be included in the draw as the #5 seed.

If you're looking for a longshot, I would consider Hurkacz or Cilic at 50/1. And you may be able to find better numbers elsewhere. Personally I'm waiting for the draw to see who will benefit from the Djokovic withdrawal.

As for the women, I was considering a play on Swiatek in the +350 range, but I just read about some controversy with the balls being used.

quote:

WTA world No.1 Iga Swiatek has slammed the the US Open for using different balls for women.

The balls used by women at the American Grand Slam are lighter than those used for the men's game.

Swiatek says the lighter balls are harder to control.

I thought most of the WTA didn't care about balls anyway

No GOAT, no watch. Didn’t watch a single match of the AO either. If it wasn’t the Serena farewell the ratings would be god awful. I still think they’ll be pretty bad.

Novak still has the best odds? I thought he wasn’t allowed to play

I know we live in a clown world but still having the vax requirements right now are just so over the top ridiculous it almost seems made up

I saw on another board that Pat McEnroe said there is some blockbuster news coming, but unless it's about Novak, I really have no idea what it could be. Some people thought it might be about allowing coaching, but that is meh to me. I think the draw is later today.

I screwed up during Aussie Open and accidentally put in U.S. Open bets on Rafa and Rublev that I couldn't cash out. So, I guess I will roll with that.

I got Medvedev at +280. It’s not good value considering I could have just bet him in each match and take him whenever he gets down early in a set for decent odds. At least it’s a good bit better than his current odds at +225 though.

Updated pre-draw odds. Apparently the draw is happening at noon eastern, but behind closed doors. Ben Shelton is 250/1 if you have enormous balls.

Who/what is keeping him out? NY State? Fed? ATP? I never figured it out. Ridiculous.

Coric vs. Alcaraz 3rd round

With Kyrgios in Medvedev's section, I would say Rafa made out like a bandit with this draw.

It's the federal government requirement.

Men's Singles champion deserves an asterisk, just like the AO champion.

That said, I'm rooting for Sinner or Alcaraz - those two are the future of the sport.

As a lifelong AVID Rafa fan, Idk how I’ll feel if he gets 2 because of these absurd regulations keeping Djokovic out. I know that’s saying a lot to assume he’ll win, but if he does, Idk, makes me feel sort of dirty getting them in this way.

I know he can’t control it but just sorta sucks.

How and why in the F is that regulation still in place?
