I was way too young for when they made it and the scandal. Read an article on the athletic and intrigued me. A depressing article.

Wish espn would do a 30 for 30 or someone would do a doc on this team.

Minneapolis, Minnesota and Madison, Wisconsin are racist towns.

Have no idea why top recruits would go there.

Weird. I remember almost every final four team pretty well and I had no idea were there. It wasn't even Voshon Lenard era. I seem to recall Bobby Jackson was a bad man and the other guys are coming back to me a bit the more I think about (Lewis, Archambault, James, Sanden).

Sam Jacobson, John Thomas, and Quincy Lewis all played in the NBA.

Clemson lost to them in double OT in the sweet 16. Rick Barnes was the head coach of Clemson, and at least in my lifetime, that was the best basketball team the program had.

Terrell McIntyre misses about 12 footer to go up 7, maybe, in that first OT. If he his that, Clemson likely wins. Probably one of my biggest letdowns/losses as a young fan.

Yup, the most liberal town in the entire midwest and one of the most liberal in the entire country is incredibly racist.

Speaking of, I was at the last game of the year in the UW Fieldhouse when Minnesota was ranked number 2. My sophomore year and the last season of the Fieldhouse before the Kohl Center opened. Ty Calderwood, Sam Okey...the place was fricking shaking. Still one of the coolest live environments I've been in.

That Minney team gave Kentucky all they could give them....they damn near beat us in the semifinals. As one posted Haskins was dirty as Frick and Pearl is similar to him.

They lost to Gonzaga the day after the news broke in the 1st round of the 99 tournament. Then they hired Monson to replace Haskins. Had they gone another direction it would be interesting to see where Gonzaga is today, where Few is coaching, etc.

And then that Gonzaga team beat us in the Sweet 16 on a buzzer beater.

Oregon is terribly racist and everyone thinks they're super liberal.

Does Minnesota or Wisconsin actually get top recruits?

I think it was a pretty big academic scandal, maybe up there with what UNC did, but didn’t get busted for.

Minny college hoops is also known for their beatdown of Ohio State players in a game in 71-72. The head coach was Bill Musselman. I think 3 Ohio State players were hospitalized. It was basically assault on the court.

They came through the regional in San Antonio. I remember them knocking odd UCLA in the Elite 8.

Some of those ‘random’ F4 teams stick out to me the most.

1999 Ohio State led by Scoonie Penn and Michael Redd. They were 1-15 in the Big Ten the previous season. Of course, that one was vacated.

The entire 2000 Final Four had that vibe. Michigan State was the lone 1 seed, making their second trip under Izzo. They were joined by a 18-13 UNC team that was a 8 seed, and a 18-13 Wisconsin team that was a 8 seed. Florida was a 5 seed and only making their second NCAA appearance under Donovan.
