Your favorite swing stock(s)?

Any tips and tickers for making a "simple" $100 a day swinging for a newbie? Just want to get the hang of it.

My tip would be don’t try to do this unless you can lose a substantial amount of money and handle a steep and brutal learning curve

So are you day or swing trading?

$100 a day? You starting with 5-10k?

You could drop 1000 or 2000 and get 100 easily if you target those micro caps and pray to heaven. That move doesn’t work out as much as people want to believe. I promise if you do that a lot you will end up losing money

A lot of times it works for people and they continue doing it thinking they can repeat it, but the opposite usually happens. There are people out there that pretty much do this exclusively. It’s gambling though

You are better off going after good growth companies. You start off slow, but after 3-4 months I was averaging 2k per month. After 6 I was averaging almost 4K. The results end up being the same or better with much less risk. That was last year though when it was easy

Yes, I have a few thousand. This would be swing and I'd never expect to hit it right off the mark. Just trying to build up to something like that over the course of a year or so.

Already have a 401k, plus a Roth. Trying to be more active in the market and see if I can create something for myself.

I think my uneducated answer would be to understand the philosophy before asking for specific stocks. You need to know the process not the answer.

I dabbled in swing stocks and didn't like the results. Got HOFV, it dropped further and stayed down, and I eventually sold for a small profit.

Still holding the bag on FTFT for now.

You can find swing stocks by using a screener like Finviz and looking for a high beta. Beta is a measure of volatility. 1 tracks the overall market, less than 1 means less volatile, more than 1 means more volatile. A negative number means the same except the stock goes in the opposite direction from the overall market.

You'd want to keep dry powder in your account in the form of cash and watch stocks with a high beta. Buy on a dip or at a preset price. Sell on a spike or at a preset price.

One other caveat: Beware of the wash sale rule.

“easily” and “pray to heaven” have never been coterminous in my investing lexicon

Nice. Sounds good. Pharma is great for a swing play. You can even swing a biotech index like XBI for a more conservative play.

Some swingable pharma that I like:
AKBA
ATOS
AUPH
BCRX
CARA
HEPA
PIRS

Look for breakouts on MA charts and watch for high/low RSI. If you don’t know what these are investopedia them or ask. If you do, my bad.

Though the ultimate swing play could be PHIL.
Sell after the CEO tweets and buy back once he’s been silent for 1-2 weeks.

He tweeted yesterday and the stock shot up 20%

Best of luck.
