When I was in my early 20's this saying always came up and I was like......"What an absolute crock of shite!"

Now that I'm in my early 30's, this is one of the most true statements I can reflect on.

Evidence:

1) Bought a BOSE sound dock orginal in 2008, used it until newer models iphones came out.....sat on my desk until one day I decided to call about it......100 bucks and a phone call later I have a brand new bose III sound dock with bluetooth and wireless capabilities.

2) Bought a 500 dollar Allen Edmonds bag for my Anesthesia graduation..........Wife laughed at me.....the handle broke, made a call.......they sent me a UPS shipping label and boom got a brand new bag in today

3) Bought Maui Jims @ sunglass hut.......they've replaced them 3 times already without any question because of lens or frame damage.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because in my 20's I searched for Bargains, not namebrands........felt I could do better by saving a buck up front..........

In the end, I was wrong.

Replaced them for free? I've had a pair for about 4-5 years now. They have scratched lenses but a few weeks ago one of them got ripped off the frame.

I also subscribe to this line of thinking. My Filson luggage will likely outlive me.

I'm still within the 1 year warranty window so I can't say for sure.......I know for a fact Maui Jims will replace them though.

If the shirt cost him enough, I'm sure he probably would.

I would not abuse a policy like that.

So you wouldn't use policies in place to protect an investment?

You didn't write the policy. The company did. they set the price too.

Send in the merchandise, let them decide. They will more than likely realize the premium in good will is well worth the cost of replacement.

Case in point: this thread.

I find myself to be a middle of the road guy. I don't buy the most expensive thing and I don't by the cheapest either... I try to find something in the middle.

But a lot of it depends upon the relative prices and the actual product itself. For example, sunglasses, I lose them two or three times a year, So it makes no sense for me to buy really nice ones. On the other hand, under no circumstances do I ever buy cheap toilet paper.

So if I spend extra money to get the good meth, will my dealer give me a refund if I don't get high enough?

So are you posting that if you would have spent a little more money, none of that stuff would have broken in the first place?

MJ's have a two year warranty from Sunglass Hut, I'm pretty sure. I bought a pair last summer and there a little nick in one of the lenses. I'll send them off a little closer to the warranty expiration.

This is true with shoes 100%.

I have upgraded every time I have bought a new pair and every time has been a pleasant surprise.

The two extravagances in my life are Brooks Brothers clothing for work, and New Balance shoes with Memory Foam orthotic inserts for comfort relief (not prescribed but the wife works for a foot and ankle doctor who does and we know how ridiculously comfortable they are).

The one wish I have is to get a few saddleback leather bags and briefcases.
