What’s your call it quits number
What is everyone’s “I’d quit work today” number for retirement. Or for those who like their job and would keep going. What would be your I no longer need anymore for retirement number? Just a friendly poll.

re: What’s your call it quits number
I have expensive hobbies and goals so my number would make most people scoff. Add to that I am young and have another 40-50 or so yrs left to live. 5 mil I could probably swing it. 7 for sure.

That number is me affording all my goals and retirement.

re: What’s your call it quits number
My "number" is around 50 years old.

I don't need much money at all, but if I had it, I still can't reverse in age to enjoy it.

Hell, A paid off cabin, low property taxes near a lake to hunt and fish. You don't need much money at all to be happy, but you do need to be young enough to enjoy it!

I'm 41 and I'd probably retire if I had 4 million right now. I figure if I could make 3% on that I'd be making 120k with no debt. I could do it on less than that.

I'd have to sit down and do some serious analysis. I'm gonna ballpark at $6,000,000. I'm 35 with a 1.5 year old and likely a second child by 2021. I think we could live off of gainz and support our average lifestyle from that.

re: What’s your call it quits number
Actually retire? I’m too young to actually retire. I’d pay some people more of my business’s income to run it more, take considerably more time off, give them more time off, and let a good chunk of my money work hard for another 10 years or so.

You can’t travel and do long crazy trips that much with kids in school. They have too much going on and need a somewhat normal life.

I could do that with $2-3 mil. Keep at least a mil in the market untouched for the future to work, and use the other 1-2 for a better life. In my mid 30s, I’d be sitting pretty dang good with that.

I'm hoping to retire in 5 years, and I will feel good about it with 1.7M. Will still do it at 1.5. As long as I have everything paid off, I don't need a lot, and I don't have expensive hobbies.

Goal is to retire in 1.5 years and financial goal is already met. No house or car payments.

re: What’s your call it quits number
Mid 40’s with a wife about to turn 40. Our goal is to have the house paid off before I turn 50. Around that same time, if the market has been doing well, we should be around the combined million dollar mark in our 401k’s. The kids will be out of high school in 10yrs. I’ll put in the catch up amount once I turn 50. I’d love to hang it up at 55 but realistically 59 1/2 will be it and I’ve pinpointed the exact day, not a day over if I make it that far. I’ve been with the same company since I was 22 so I can’t complain.

That’s kind of my goal. I’m not looking for $X million. I’m aiming for at least $150k/year in passive income on top of other savings and investments.

Most of us have to figure that health insurance will be a massive expense that many of us don't largely pay for now. 120k would probably maintain my lifestyle which is fine for us. I could live on far less but I still have a kid almost in HS so I guess I'm taking that into account.

$6 million in my head.

I'd probably make it work with $4 million.

re: What’s your call it quits number
$1.5M and i could "retire" as in work in a completely frick off manner and completely enjoy life without worry

if i could average 5% that would be $75k in "salary" every year on average. i could easily use that to create another savings vehicle by itself over time. i could easily make 30-40k playing poker alone and if i picked up a handful of felonies each year that's another 15-25k

Without doing serious analysis, $5-$6 million.

For reference, 41 with wife and 3 kids (3,7,11).

If 401ks are ever taxed, I quit.

That is my number.

re: What’s your call it quits number
I could probably retire if someone handed me around $1.75-$2M. Even then I may work a few more years to just set myself up better for retirement.

Now if someone gave me $5M I’d probably retire in a few months once they found a replacement.
