What is your current exposure to small/mid cap stocks?
Posted by slackster on 2/8/21 at 12:41 pm00
Whether it be individual stocks or funds, how much of your equity exposure is allocated to mid and small caps? Let’s say anything from $20B in market cap to ~$1B in market cap. That takes you roughly from the top of S&P MidCap 490 to the bottom of the S&P SmallCap600 - we can debate where mid cap should truly start if you’d like.
Of my equity exposure, I’m about 25% in smid. I was probably underexposed IMO in the summer but have been adding there since then.

My Roth is 50% small cap and it has been that way since 2016. All of my speculative and non retirement investment is small cap as well. Yolo

Less than 10%, but I am seriously reconsidering that figure.

Probably only about 5-7%

My main investment is a total stock index fund - thus, providing complete diversity and exposure to large, mid, and small cap stocks.

my core 401K funds are:
40% large cap
30% mid
20% small
10% international
40% large cap
30% mid
20% small
10% international

Individual stocks. I have been keeping an eye on XSMO for a small cap fund to put some money in.
I typically use IJH/IJR and build from there. I rarely dabble in individual stocks period, but in particular with small and mid. Just personal preference.

I mostly do individual stocks. Right now I have time to spend on that. At some point I may not, so have been keeping an eye on funds to move money into when that comes up.
Probably way more than I should be, although I'm monitoring daily which I usually don't do.
The gains have been too alluring, but I also don't want to be overextended when we inevitably correct.
I have some core holdings that I don't ever plan on selling and some are small cap, but I'm definitely speculating on quite a few and will sell at any hint of a correction.

I've increased it as of late. The Personal Capital app has a lot of good break downs. Blue is me, green is their recommendation. They recommend 60 large/40 mid & small :)
33% Large
30% Mid
37% Small
33% Large
30% Mid
37% Small

Over time, small caps outperform.
I have probably 25% in small caps.
