I use USAA for almost everything, but I'd like to keep a small account at a bank in town that I can go to for withdrawing large sums (for cash purchases), cashing checks that won't register on an app, and other things that require being in person.

Who wouldn’t love a small account that allows you to withdraw large sums. LOL!

On a serious note, I’ve got free local checking at both capital one and Chase...and thought free checking was pretty much standard everywhere.

Most banks if you drop below a certain balance there is a fee.

After Regions instituted all of those ridiculous fees, I moved to Capital One.

Happy with their service. No problems and no BS fees.

Regions has one that is free if you keep a certain balance. The balance is not too high, if I remember right.

After having to close my chase account I had since 2005 due to a scam I fell for they wanted to charge me a fee to open a new account so I have a capital one account that is free as long as you have direct deposit.

i have the same question, but live in NC. I use USAA but all of the local banks (wells fargo, BBT, PNC) here will charge a fee if you don't deposit so much per month and have so many debits per month. I still have my capital one account for and transfer money in and out of USAA when needed, but would like something local.

There's always a record for checks even if you deposit in person.
