i have a big position in AMD, its been range-bound in the mid 50's since recovering its march lows in mid april. i got other shite thats actually making money that i'd like to add to

anyone have a compelling reason to hold on to this?
i'm slightly in the green (it goes up and down across my purchase price).

70MM (!) shares of AMD trade every day, but the stock stays in the mid 50's mo matter what. i'm getting antsy

I can see it going up a little more, but not enough to hold on to it. There are too many other opportunities that could almost double your investment right now.

Haven’t they been losing market share over the past couple of years?

I sold my entire position last year. I just do not see a lot of growth and with companies like that I don’t keep them unless they are paying a fat dividend. Just my .02

They aren't losing market share.

I think that they are being compared to NVDA which is the gold standard, one of the best companies in the country and to date they haven't developed tech to really match NVDAs.

They are getting closer and closer, tho. If you believe in the company, it is a ticking time bomb to $150-200.

i agree AMD will eventually win, thats why i bought it.
it is doing nothing right now though...

i bailed and bought SE with the proceeds, and will try AMD again closer to the holiday buying season

Just looked at them... not too shabby. I think I'll do the same.

I'm up 287% on AMD, should I probably sell? Yes but I can't seem to

I like looking at that number, makes me feel smart

Maybe I need someone to explain the semiconductor industry to me like I’m 5. I’m no expert but I do own some INTC and NVDA, and here’s what I’ve taken away:

So on the GPU front, I know Radeon and GeForce are the big dogs in the consumer/gaming market. But in the machine learning market, all of the talk had been NVDA. Has AMD just been flying under the radar or are NVDA’s products better suited for these applications?

As for the CPU front - I thought the opposite (that INTC had been taking market share from AMD since the Core series processors first came out). INTC has the Mac market cornered for the time being, unless or until Apple shows they are serious about chip manufacturing for laptops/desktops. And as far as I know NVDA doesn’t focus on CPU’s?

On the other hand, INTC is apparently getting ready to enter the GPU market which will take some amount of market share from AMD and NVDA.

TL;DR my understanding has been that AMD is running in second place on both fronts (GPUs and CPUs) behind INTC/NVDA. Of course there’s no reason to think that they have to be the market leader to be successful, just surprised to hear that they’ve been taking market share from Intel.

Don't really want to. But if it's at 48.99 by next Friday at 4:01PM, guess I might have to.

I know you've dumped it now, but do you ever consider selling calls against positions that you want to exit at a certain price? Just basic covered calls.

Ah, OK. Another question, if you don't mind. Are you a long only trader, or do you go long and short?

AMD has a big future ahead of it. They beat out Nvidia and Intel for the PS5 and they have a new chip releasing this year.

AMD has much more growth in the chip space than INTEL IMO.

I love SE. Great stock and company. Good choice.
