Other Tesla owners - are you booking profits ahead of earnings? I am very conflicted on what to do.

On one hand - think the price has shot up so much lately in anticipation of the potential to join the S&P 500 with a profitable quarter that it could be a situation with almost no upside, only risk.

On the other hand - I think a green quarter would launch them into the S&P 500 and outpace their competitors that it could feed the hype and surge even more, breaking the all time high again.

What is everyone else’s thoughts?

ETA: I think I plan on holding due to uncertainty and me being long for Tesla anyway. I could always buy more if it tanks

I have some LEAPS on Tesla for November $2000. Plan on dumping them Friday if they report positive earning tomorrow afternoon. So we will see...

I don't do options - what does that mean? Explain it to me like I'm 5.

someone bought a option contract saying they will buy 100 shares of tesla at 2800 if it get to that price point or a price higher than that by July 24th of this year. (very risky as it is at 1600ish rn). The buyer pays a premium to buy the option not the full price of the 100 shares of the stock at current and can execute the contract if it gets to the 2800. in theory you plan for the stock to go way higher than 2800 so you can execute the option. get 100 shares at 2800 and then sell for say 3200 if thats where it was. But in this person case they would have the option to buy 50,000 shares of tesla.

However, most options players are just in it for the premium price increase. Although it is highly highly unlikely that the price will get to 2800 by july 24th, if they report positive earnings and the stock increases so will the premium or the price paid by the "robinhood bro". That Bro will then sell the options to another person and profit off the increase in premium price.

However, if he doesnt sell it or the price doesnt hit 2800 and he cant execute it, the option expires worthless and he loses everything. In this case the July 24th options are going for $1.88 right now. So the price would really be $188 an option x the 500 options bought= $94,000 initial investment he might lose.

Basically a dude (or dudette, I guess, but statistically unlikely) is betting a lot that the price of TSLA stock is going to go up a lot before Friday.

Robinhood is an online brokerage with a reputation for catering to and encouraging people who have no clue at all. This might be evidence.

I could be wrong, but I think it’ll stick to pretty close to where it is if they get the profitability for inclusion.

If they miss, look out below.

Of course, it could drive another 50% because what does it even matter at this point. There is so much growth built into it, why not drive it up more.

I won’t be touching it.

Theta decay on a 75-80% premium is going to eat that dude’s fricking lunch.

I'm not touching it. This stock kind of blows my mind they are expected to report negative earnings but have a stock price of 1,500. I do think they have a great product but they don't have much of a track record to justify this price. Good luck to those who own it because its been some great gains for people but I'm staying away.

waiting and seeing.

if they post a profit and are included in the s&p I expect a good little bump and will probably sell off half my shares.

if they don't post a profit i expect a huge drop and will just continue to hold, maybe add on a few shares if it drops low enough.

my average price now is right at $201

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say, "Tesla losses tomorrow..."??

I’ve been wanting to sell some cash covered calls on some of these meme stocks. Offer a 5 DTE at 20% up. Sell those “lottery tickets”. None hit. Pocket premium. Rinse and repeat.

I never touch Tesla. Learned a lesson long ago. Will rocket with bad news and crater with good news. The people who trade it are as irrational and crazy as the CEO (although I do admire the dude). Best to avoid
