And they don’t make near what the owners of daycare centers make

Are you honestly comparing an OWNER of a business to a teacher? Most daycare "teachers" make $9-12/ hour. There are day cares that go out of business all the time. They all are by no means super profitable. Most day cares BARELY get by. If someone can figure out how to run and expand a business how is that bad? That's a horrible comparison to a teacher. If anything compare a day care owner to a principle. Guess what, principles can make money. You know how much headmasters at good private schools make?

No one has answered this for me yet and I've asked it multiple times. You can make $60k fairly easily as a teacher in most states and areas, plenty of areas with low cost of living. How much SHOULD we be paying them? Some teachers can make close to or at 6 figures.

Should all good teachers make $80k? $100k?

Obviously, he had his time in and was counting the days to retirement so they may let him be.

Just seeing this. My dad was in the final top 3 for teacher of the year for the state of Louisiana. He wasn't a shitty teacher who was just skating through. He did his work well, just between 6 am and 3 PM. And he enjoyed his time off in the summer.

I'll agree teachers know the pay beforehand but as school systems continue to ask more and more from teachers they should compensate them more
I can say the amount of documentation has increased since I started, my lesson plans need to be more detailed, I need to go to more training outside of school hours, and I have more meetings than ever before. While I understood my salary going in I've been asked to increase my workload each year for only a 150 raise.

I used to roll my eyes at this kind of stuff and do think that teachers complain and strike and protest at their state capitals too much. However I've come to realize that there are varying degrees of demands placed on teachers and appreciate just how much the average American worker dicks off all day by comparison and whines about a laughable 9-5 on the OT. The amount of lesson planning and administrative bullshite they have to deal with is unreal and continues to escalate, and the quality of kids continues to deteriorate for different reasons. Also the quality of competence and maturity in administrators is shockingly bad compared to managerial roles in other professions.

The time off is a great perk, and they are probably compensated fairly, but they work harder than your average OTer appreciates.

Not reading 7 pages, but, who manages the 403b? If it is worth it - lookout. She should be putting an additional 19k away a year. The tax-advantaged savings rate for government employees can be insane.
