Tax question: Divorce related
After my divorce in late 2016, I forgot to redo my with-drawings from my W-2. I'm looking at owing almost 1700 because of this mistake. Is there anything I can do?

Change your W-4 at work (to single I would assume) and write a $1,700 check this year.

ETA: Have you maxed out retirement contributions this year? If not, doing so would lessen your tax bill.

Assuming you can save ~$550/mo until 4/15, you're good for 2017.

Going forward, adjust your withholding to make sure and extra ~$150 is taken from your paycheck for 2018 to avoid the situation again in 2019.

Just tell the IRS you are very sorry. They will take pity on you.

Adjust your withholding for 2018 and make sure you are claiming all deductions entitled for 2017. If you are eligible to contribute to a deductible IRA, consider that.

If eligible the last day to contribute to a deductible IRA and/or HSA for your 2017 return is around April 15th
