I’ve seen on a couple websites there is an 800ish dollar max. Is that accurate? TIA

I’m setting up an LLC in Montana for the next car I’m buying that’s worth anything.

Related question...if trading in a vehicle, is sales tax calculated from the price of the new car, or the price of the new car minus the price of the trade?

some states cap the sales tax with either a dollar amount or percentage. Louisiana is NOT one of those states.

probably not worth it for a car. maybe a plane or rv, but the state is aware of this and is trying to crack down

He'd technically be responsible for use tax anyway.

I know that people do that on big purchases but I also know that is a target of state sales tax auditors.

How are you going to tag it and where will you park it?? I suspect a Montana tag traveling through a Louisiana town every day would eventually draw suspicion.

What do you think?

I know a few people that have them on exotics but they are not everyday vehicles. I thought about doing it at one point but I think it's shady and if you get caught doing something stupid a cop is going to throw the book at you.

This us correct.

Add 5.00% for New Orleans.
Add 5.75% for Lake Charles.
