We have used an accountant for our taxes for years. Super sharp guy who has saved us alot of money.

We have a couple of in home type business to reduce our tax burden. From what I know (which isn't alot) the 2018 standard deduction doubles to 24k and some of those write offs disappear. Would it be wiser to just do my own taxes next year and save the 350 that I pay him?

Yes, that's plenty of information to render an opinion.

Personally, I'd pay him the 350 and see what he does. If he only takes the standard deduction I'd look into doing that next year for myself, if not well you have your answer.

I think you will find tree fiddy to be a pretty standard rate.

If you have side businesses, the expenses tied to the business should still be deductible. $350 a year to endure things are right and not have to do it yourself seems like a fair trade off.

I agree to pay it this year and see if he takes the standard deduction.

Are you deducting them on Sch C or Sch A? If Sch A, they will go away and you'll likely be using the standard deduction. If Sch C, they are not going away and you can still deduct them.

If I'm understanding that you're taking a home office deduction correctly. Post isn't quite clear.

I have a number of clients that could easily prepare their own taxes now, as well as after tax reform kicks in, but choose to use a CPA so they don't have to "deal with it".

If he's a super sharp guy who saves you a lot of money... it seems $350 is worth it, is it not?

I would agree, let him do it next year and see if it's dramatically easier. If it is, and you are comfortable, maybe take it back after that.

He is. He has saved me literally thousands of dollars over the years. I might do what you say and just watch what he does next year then decide. Thanks to you and everyone else who responded
