I was planning to lump sum an entire loan balance on 2/1/21 when the interest restarted. Now that it’s been extended I will deploying all of it in the market tomorrow.

Probably do a 3rd in total market, 3rd in BB and 3rd in GME.

I’ve kept paying the loans for my wife and I, but we both are above $10k balances. I could see Biden’s $10k forgiveness going through but I don’t see them forgiving everything. To me it’s a free return to pay extra principal with no risk. Would definitely feel differently if we had less though to where it could all be gone.

Yah just be careful if you think the combined income of you and your significant other is relatively high. I was more worried about waiting for debt forgiveness given it might be income based (similar to stimulus checks).

I had a Sallie Mae loan that didn’t have the interest deferred, but my other loan was. So I combined my payments to pay off the Sallie Mae completely. So now I have just he loan that is in deferment.

This thread gives me a lot to think about as to whether or not just putting that money in a separate brokerage account than my main one would be worth it.

I do prefer to take the gamble as I currently have no major bills other than monthly student loan. Which if it does well over the next 8 months, could go a long way.

I have a small student loan debt remaining, just down to principal now. I’ve done exactly this and stopped making payments and invested it instead. It’s definitely paid off for me, I’ve very easily beaten the 3.5% interest rate

I would be shocked if the 10k forgiveness, if it ever happens, isn’t income based. If you didn’t get the stimulus you aren’t getting the 10k forgiveness

I'm not paying anything until someone decides what is going to become of the student loans. Forgiven, reduced, reinstated? I am taking the money and putting it places that return more.

If you were in this group of individuals, if you had no other debt besides mortgage, and let's say your student loan payment is $300/month, would you...

My exact situation (well my monthly payment is higher). Thanks for making a thread that asks this question, looking forward to the answers.
