Going to put the 500’s aside for the kids, save a little, and invest the rest!

Sounds like you are the poster child for those saying bailouts are too big/going to too many people and many getting them won’t use it to stimulate the economy. Saving and investing in large corporations isn’t helping restaurants, paying a mortgage or keeping your lights on. It’s precisely what many will do with the stimulus check, though.

It’s not his fault the feds have gone full socialist on us. If he doesn’t need the money to make ends meet, there’s no reason he shouldn’t do precisely what you said and make his life better in the long run.

This is true. I have the same plan as OP. But I try to be as fiscally responsible As I can pretty much all of the time. The majority of people getting this check have likely already spent it a few times over. I couldn’t in good conscience fritter mine away in these uncertain times when I could invest it or pile on to my emergency fund. That is likely why OP is in the position to save/invest it in the first place.

I have no kids and still have a job/check coming in. So I'm investing a good portion, donating some to a local GoFundMe to help restaurant workers at the places I visit, and putting whatever is left in savings.
I'm still buying take out a few days a week and supporting local breweries but I'm saving money since I'm not going out every Thursday - Saturday right now. Who knew a couple of four packs of beer was cheaper than getting three twelve ounce pours (sarcasm [on])

You act like I’m not also paying a mortgage and feeding my family everyday. The government didn’t have to send out these checks and I would have been fine. Yet they did. Why not set my family up a little better financially?

Guess I am SOL. I thought I would qualify for partial as my AGI was $170,147 in 2018. Married filing jointly with 2 kids. Luckily I didn't file for 2019 yet.

I agree. The OP is doing the smart and prudent thing. Taking what is apparently a windfall and saving/investing. He’s also proving the point of many people and doing what they suggested many Americans would do with the stimulus checks. It may help the stock market, ATV/golf cart shops, fishing boats, drug dealers or any other discretionary outlet, but it’s not necessary to survive a Coronavirus lockdown for a large portion of people receiving it.

There is no deadline today. Unsure why you did not get your trump check today but a large number (60-80M) got their trump check deposited today.

Does the IRS have your bank information from your 2018 filing? There is a website to go and make sure they have your banking information because paper checks will take a long time (i.e. September for you).

Sorry you if you are sensitive to my post as it is not meant to offend you. That is not even remotely close to what I was suggesting. Never one time did I insinuate, suggest or say that you are not paying a mortgage or feeding your family. You were doing that before the stimulus. That’s great. It also shows people that didn’t need stimulus checks to survive are getting government assistance. Just part of what is now apparently a post capitalism economy for the time being.
